Does anyone have any experience on collecting flint rock? Not from a store but actually going into your local woods and knowing where to look.

I picked up some while stationed at Ft Hood Texas in the surrounding area. There was quite a bit in some areas of head sized rocks. I have found scattering in Oklahoma creekbeds but not in large workable quantities. There are alot of good undiscovered pieces that are pre-formed into tools already in Indian villages. I had a few scrapers and arrowheads located in these after the fields have been turned or a hard rain.

I have found a BUNCH of chert (which is a type of flint) at my BOL. It throws a good amount of sparks.

Ohio is home to Flint Ridge, a location where native cultures have mined flint for eons.

I'd look in creek beds or gullies where water has washed away the soil exposing the stones.

I'd research geological surveys. Southeast Iowa has tons of flint strewn around creek beds, etc.
