Got my first "I'm coming to your place...."

Okay so I got my first "I'm coming to your place if something happens" from a coworker. I was joking around about buying up all the KI pills in the area and my cube mate says "I'm coming to your house if something ever happens". I have never invited him nor does he know where I live. We don't have a land line so it is a little tougher to find our house. I replied "I won't be there" with a big cheesy grin on my face.

I love how people just invite themselves to your house, don't you? He would be treated like a zombie if he ever showed up to my house when TSHTF. He is one of those entitlement mindset people. He takes naps at work and complains that he can't get a promotion.

Yeah, no kidding. I'll tell you, that can get old. Lately I've been getting what I think might be worse. At least those people who talk about showing up aren't completely blocked off mentally from the idea that something may, in dead, happen. But lately I've had the folks just talk about how I'm wrong about anything ever happening. I ask, "what are you going to do when blah d blah happens?" They say, "I'm not worried about it because that won't happen." when pressed they'll say "I'll just do blah d blah." That means they have no concept of preparation at all. They are totally dependent on things remaining as they are, and don't think it is even possible for things to go south. It really sucks because one guy, I really like. He's a good country boy, can cook and do a lot. He raises animals and has a lot of experience cleaning and butchering hogs and other farm animals. I guess he is better off than most with his knowledge and experience, but it seems so crazy that someone who is in tune enough to have that life experience feels the way he does. I guess they come in all shapes and sizes. Anyway, my best friend told me "store some for me buddy," one day when I told him I was off to take care of some food storage, and it just fired me up. I want to say, "get your sh!t together and come with me to store some for yourself." It's the same thing. "Hey, I'm gonna sit on my @ss and spend my money living it up, so more power to you for prepping, because I'm coming to your place when TSHTF." "I'm gonna go wax up the hot rod and take it for a spin on 93 octane @ 8 MPG, screwing around. You drive your Honda over and spend your paycheck on food for me to eat." It really makes me furious if I keep thinking about it and what follows from it.

I've had that said to me more than once, I've since tried to keep a much lower profile.

I've gotten that. These however are the people that at the same time also heckle me about wasting money and being paranoid.

If he would have heckled me first I might have been more blunt in telling him he wasn't invited.

yeah i know what u mean..my girl friend and i are about to buy some land down in missouri..couple of her family members have stated "i know where i can go if anything ever happens" i told them,well if u prepare u are welcome,if not sorry about that jack!! we have offered them all space to park rvs if they want to..but bring your own food!!! most of them now enjoy a new SUV or car every other year,live in houses with huge mortgages and wear designer clothes,drink name brand beer,smoke those 5-6 dollar a pack cigs,so after ive offered room for them to park rv (so far not one has accepted or even been interested in the idea) i will not feel bad feel sorry for them,but their underage children are welcome and will be cared for

I let no one know what my wife and I have done to prepare for bad times. We have always lived with a preparitory mindset, so it's just normal for us. The only people who know where we live are our kids and their spouses (and they are always welcome, good times or bad), the farrier, the hay man, the large animal vet.
I don't fraternize with the people at work. They know I'm a veteran, I love guns, and am kinda crazy.:)
They leave me alone.:cool:

yeah, I've actually had people tell me that buying food for my family the way I do is a waste of money. So having a year supply pantry in my basement is a waste since we will eventually eat it weather or not a disaster happens?

I think for a lot of people that say that, it's a joke, maybe even some attempt at flattery or a compliment.

Course to like minded people it's a whole nuther deal....

Hahha that seems to draw them to me like flies to sh.. I mean honey, well maybe not I smell bad, I'm usless except for growing things or making them stinky and I'm not sweet, anyway

I jumped all over the last one that said that but my teen daughter had a girl tell her she was gonna follow her if amything bad ever happened at school because she has it together with stuff like that. That made me proud, I guess it just shows.
It's enough to "tick off the Pope" at times because we work hard, train and spend our vast fortunes (LOL) only to be ridiculed until something bad does happen and them bam, instant life sucking leach zombies! The folks here should be proud wether anyone knows they prepare or not because you are Leaders and it shows in the way you live. Thats why sheeple are looking even now for a leader to save them.

Almost every year here we have an Ice storm knock out the power (once for a week) and while my neighbors are scrambling to get to walmart my GF and I are enjoying the fireplace.

The point is, when something bad happens, most people kick into survival mode and panic. They become very dangerous and this point and don't think rationally anymore

I really believe that there is a thin veneer of servility on our society that would be gone very quickly

I think some ridicule out of jealousy, they're living pay ck to pay ck and just don't have the means to prep, not that it should be anything to be ashamed of today. About fifty yrs ago I bought one of the first 4X4s with a plow and I know many of my "friends" made a lot of smart cracks about it .Statements like I got by this far without 4X4 and a plow and I'll make it the rest of my life or it's nice to have money, now the same people have one or even two 4X4s. It's the same with having more of anything than your neighbor, many people are jealous if you've been more successful than them or managed your money better.Another reason that I keep a low profile or keep extra thing out of sight.
When things get so that everyone is wondering how they're going to eat tomorrow, I would probably take in a close relative after they understand their responcibilities around the place and that we're in survival mode and we're staying ahead of things.There's no way i would tell anyone all of our defences or where anything is other than my sons, son in laws.

I have had the same comments and even had one person say "hey if the big throw down happens I will just come over to your place and borrow one of those 30 ought nines" (A real gun guru there) . I have yet had someone say "what do I need to bring if I wanted to come over to your place?"

DUDE! That's exactly what I was thinking when someone relatively said the same thing to me. As if I was going to let them in my home and clean their butts or something.
