  • Anyone prepping any alcohol for bater?

I might put back some Jack and Jim, and maybe a vodka or two. Alcohol, I think will be a big stress reliever in PAW, and a great bater item. Another cheap barter item you can buy now is bricks of 22lr ammo.

I am not. I think that trading something that can come back and bite you is not the way to go. I worry that someone who I trade with will get drunk decide I have stuff and wolla I created a group of drunken fearless zombies. The ammo also worries me as they can use it against you.
I dunno, maybe I'm overly paranoid and my dealings, since my teen years, with the human race over the past 30 years has not left me with great confidence. I'm not a drinker and after PAW just as on Military missions, no matter the duration, you must maintain your wits. Stress will have to be relieved thru humor, minor distractions such as games or other options besides chemicals or drugs.
I think it's a decision that will have to be very carefuly thought out and executed with OPSEC at the forefront if done IMHO.

Too much of a risk of Uncle Jimbo needing to "blow off steam" and then messing up majorly. People "sneaking" it to "take the edge off" when it needs to be on, etc.

Honestly I have some smaller travel size bottles put back but I don't let anyone know where, how much, etc. It's only a few and I'd use them more as gifts/graff probably then barter.

I wrote an article in American Survival Guide in November of 1996 about barter items. I need to see about scanning it and posting it here. If someone more computer savvy has it and wants to do that, please feel free to.

Ah, but there are other uses besides drinking or bartering. There are uses in cooking, although wine is the better option there, high octane alchohol will burn (kind of a waste, I admit) and there are probably some others that I can't think of at the moment.
What a long, strange trip it's been.....

You know, I was wondering if Wine would be good since it gets better with age.

I'm with Lowdonwn3, I'll use it for my group and for gifts, but probably wouldn't barter any out. I'm gone at work on a boat for 8 months a year, and I have to be sharp when I'm there. I don;t miss it, but when I'm home I enjoy a beer or what not. It could surely be handy, but you would have to know who you are giving it to, and trust their judgement, and who they are. I say stock up, but not for trading. I wouldn't trade ammo either, unless it was to some country boys I know would be getting a deer or something with it, who I knew, and could count on. Those folks would probably already be in the group and be people I would trust, rather than those I'm just trading with. I think I would be real leery of anyone coming around after TSHTF, until it lasted a good while and society began to rebuild, in which case, I would expect that they have already figured out how to feed themselves, and wouldn't need ammo, except for bad things, potentially against me. I'd say extra tools, food, or medicine would be best for trade. You want ammo or drink you have to have already passed the test and be on my team to begin with.

If you are able to get Everclear in your state it would be good to stock as it can be drank or used as an antiseptic.

or jet fuel! lol! I don't know if Ohio ever had it, alot of states banned it because of alcohol poisoning. Kids get ahold of it and think its cool to play quarters with
                  200 proof alcohol.

I didn't think there was such a thing as 200 proof alcohol? That = 100% pure alcohol... GAG!!

Well, I do have a stockpile of alcohol that I plan on using for possible barter. Whiskey, Bourbon, Vodka, Tequila, and wine.

But I am waiting to buy a vacuum sealer to make my next "idea" of a barter item!! :)
Vacuum sealed bags of 1/2 cup of salt and 1 cup of sugar.
I think these would be pretty dang important in a PAW situation.

Maybe we should start a thread on "possible barter" items?

I for one with have to be pretty darn desperate to EVER trade ammo...

The SF docs that trained us in medicine years old taught us an "oral rehydration" solution using a "fistful of sugar, two pinches of salt and a quart of water." Crude measuring methods for when a measuring cup wasn't available. :)

Could you vacuum seal sugar and salt? I think it would suck that right out of the bag. I haven't had my vacuum sealer very long though. As for barter items, well, I'm not sure I have any. Will see what I have that someone wants and I can give when the time comes.

I keep a few gals of booze and a few thousand rounds of .22LR as a backup. I always rotate the booze, and slowly use up the ammo.. Depends on the raccoon invasions. ;)
