Staying behind !!

Wow I just read about the 50 or so Japanese techs who are staying behind to try and contain the meltdown , this is most likely a death sentence and they chose it to try and help their country and people . I can remember when our country was filled with these types ( ok well I have read the stories ) . This is about the most selfless thing I have read in a long time and I wish our nation could understand this is how you are supposed to live . It is not all about you and what you deserve and someone needs to give you . Sometimes you need to step up and take one for the team/country/people .
I could only read it with admiration and sort of pride in knowing that their are still these types of people alive , I just wish they lived in my area :( . Oh well , I can't think of anything else to put into words atm .

Yes Mike, I wish I could say that I would be that dedicated towards my fellow man here in the US. Sorry, can't muster the patriotism these days. I have co-workers who are not prepping, who are all for "free" health care, who HATE conservatives and conservative ideals. They live to the extent of their credit and own much better cars and houses than me. If the shtf today, I'm not sure that I would give them a can of beenie weenies. I would, however, cheer them on if they went into the reactor. I doubt that they would volunteer, and I believe that they would mock the brave Japanese nuke techs if pressed on the issue. How did we get so polarized?

This comes down to morals, honor, and a sense of right and wrong. Those type of people see a clear line in the sand, and know when to fight, or even die, to defend what they value. It's what made firefighters run into the twin towers: a foregone conclusion about what you're willing to sacrifice for a given ideal. You don't find it much anymore except in military and firefighter types. There are others, but they seem to be dwindling for sure, even in those ranks. It is like my old Chief told me: If something major happens, and there are 100 people there, 5 will immediately spring to action, while the rest don't know what to do. It's intestinal fortitude. And God bless it, what's left.

I don't think it is that different from the brave cops and firefighters that ran into the twin towers to help before it collapsed. In desperate time the American people (mostly conservatives) show that they have true grit.

I wondered about those "50" to start with. Then I remembered this is the culture that produced soldiers that would stand up and banzai charge into a wall of flying steel from automatic weapons. The Japanese are small, polite people, but they are plenty tough and DEDICATED!

Has anybody else noticed that the new disaster has let out alot of Japanese information?

Did you all know that they are financially (before the disaster) worse off than America?
They are in debt at 200% of their GDP. This country is ready for the picking, my guess, China or NK is going to remove them.
I don't mean conventional battle, but literally financially ruining the country and taking it over...

We, the US, will most likely try to help Japan, but can we really afford to jeopardize ourselves more financially than we already are?
Or will Hussein do it to "conveniently" collapse America faster to turn us into a socialist state????

As I understand it, there were these types of selfless people at Chernobyl who sacrificed themselves to save others. I think they probably do exist in America, still, but the numbers are smaller than they used to be. I had the honor of attending an Army Basic Training Graduation awhile back, and I must say many of those soldiers impressed me.
