  • Storing seeds using O2 absorbers...or not??

Ok, I KNOW I read a thread here about NOT using O2 absorbers to store seeds long term, but cannot find it now. When I started looking for seeds I found this site http://www.aaoobfoods.com/nonhybridgardenkits.htm that sells their seed packages with O2 absorbers!

    What gives?

UPDATE: Duh!! I think I misunderstood.....the seed packets themselves do not have the O2 absorbers in them, apparently the seed packets are combined in a canister with an O2 absorber in IT....does that make the difference??

I gotta be honest I have no idea because I've never done it. We stored seeds in the freezer growing up or in envelopes in cool dry plcaes but latley wow. I've seen 3 layers of burial vaults with ammo cans and mylar with O2 absorbers where no air will ever get in so I am real curious too.

Ummm some gardners here, hope they chime in.
But I was told NO O2 absorbers because seeds actually need to breath a very minute amount in order to survive...
Gardners help us out on this...

Do not use O2 absorbers, the seed is dormant not dead. The need a very tiny amount of oxygen, not much. Your seeds will not last long if you do this, Mylar yes, O2 Absorbers No.

The debate still rages.... However seeds are LIVING and do RESPIRE.
