  • Going to the local LDS store for the first time for some wheat.

Had to make an app., seems every location is a little different. Saw a youtube video, that this woman, non-member could rent a canner and pack at home. I asked and got shot down, only members of the crurch. lol! Oh well. I'm just going to buy some bulk wheat and pack it at home. I'd like to go back soon when I get some more cash and get some canned items, such as milk, ect. Here is a link for pricing, seems good. Worth checking out, if you have one close. http://providentliving.org/content/d...4352-1,00.html

When I called them a couple of weeks ago, I was told that as a non member, I could only order off the online store. That's the previously canned grains on the store and not the things that are on the order form.
What a long, strange trip it's been.....

I wnet to the local LDS food storage and got some rice wheat ect.. a year ago and after buying everything I was about to walk out and the old man asked me which ward I belong to. I told him I did not belong to any ward. The old man asked me to return the food and tried to give me back my money. I stated nicely "Sir we have conducted a transaction and I would like to leave with my merchandice". The old man became mad and yelled for me to get out and don't come back. I called a LDS friend and told him what had occured and he told me to call the headquarters in Utah. I did and asked if you needed to be a member to purchase the food storage. I was told no and they sent me an e-mail to take with me the next time. The non-members should pay taxes where as the LDS members do not. That is why the old man got upset I guess. all in all it was a good purchase and I was told that depending on the person at the check out you may or may not get flack. Also you can go with a friend who is a member and you will not have a problem. Good luck. I believe the LDS church has the best food storage by far.
When an emergency is upon you the time for preparation has past.

@LizardKing: seriously? that is very odd, the two I have been to stated their President (I am guessing the leader of their community?) stated that all long term storage food will continue to be open to the public as long as possible. My last visit was last month, or was it two months ago? I found that showing up in person (not dressed as a degenerate of course) helps the situation. :)

Unfortunately, yes. I suppose that the online store does constitute long term storage, but the selections are extremely limited and are all in #10 cans, so the price reflects that. There's also tax, as mentioned, added to the total. Could be that I caught the wrong person that day or that individual centers have their own interpretation. I was a bit disappointed, but I can understand why they would say that, so no hard feelings about it. Onward with other LTS sources.

Wow! Now, I'm wondering if it's really worth all the headache? I'm not a memeber, but I could see how some members would look down on non-memebrs. That's just part of life!, and that will never change.

The one in Knoxville couldn't have been staffed by nicer folks. The lady that checked me out was givng me some bread making tips. I'm sorry you had such a sour experience.

the facility in atlanta (tucker) has been very nice and obliging. there are certain manners though that are very advisable. i took another non lds with me last time. i have no plans to invite him again.
if at all possible, i'd suggest finding a local lds and ask to go with them. listen carefully to their suggestions, and be willing to go on their timetable and be willing to work.
i've left a long version of this elsewhere.. time is short this morning.

talked to the a guy that works the cannery in Greensboro, NC. Seemed really nice, but said that he was having trouble keeping stuff in stock. I was planning to purchase 20 starter kits, and he told me that they fill the big orders first and then what was left over was available for purchase. For example, he said a church in VA was buying 150 starter kits, and he only had 40ish on the shelf. He said that he would have to get the distro center in Atlanta on the phone and hope that they had some extra's. I did ask him though if I was allowed to purchase and he said absolutely. He then gave me his cell phone number and told me that the best way to get ahold of him was on his cell. Pretty GREAT customer service if you ask me.
