8.9 is biblical folks. I told my wife in bed this morning, "What if this was the New Madrid?" I am glad that I have enought preps in order to last a couple of months if this ever happened to Atlanta. I pray for the Japanese. It just sucks that it is night time there now and they really cant do any assessment until the morning.
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

The same things you have been gathering.

A big one hit our area in 87' (I think) the ground shook, stuff fell over, and the hanging light in the living room seemed like it swayed back and forth for an hour.

The ground didn't open up and our walls didn't fall in on us, but there was no electricity due to damaged power poles and the gas company shut off the gas "just in case" there was damage.
Dad got out our camping gear and set up the camper-shell then we made camp behind the house.
Definitely a disruption to our normal lives but we got through it.

@ monkeybird - We had a small quake on the gulf coast, pretty much on the FL/AL line. Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but never in my life have I heard of an earthquake around this area. Pray for Japan and keep the fingers crossed for us, cause we are definitely living in interesting times.

Just saw some of the BBC live feed.... All I can say is WOW!

Huge buildings just pushed down or lifted off their foundations... Large ships tossed around like toy boats in a kid's bathtub...
Highways with vehicles (people) on them wiped clean...

I suspect the death toll on this is going to be HUGE... Let alone the damage costs in the billions, if not TRILLIONS...

Wow... How do you PREP for something like that? Besides live on higher ground, I think it would be impossible to be prepared for that... Those people caught on the highway did NOT have time to get their BOB's, and so what, go where? Serious tragedy!

You can only prep for certain things and even then there are things that are impossible to be ready for.

I'm praying for the people of Japan. The death toll will be huge and the economic toll will be catasrophic.

I'm also praying that a disaster such as this never happens to the American people.

I saw the videos of the tsunami wiping out people's homes, their cars, the boats, and the people. So much death, damage and devastation. I just break down thinking of all the tragedy. I feel so helpless, and I pray for the Japanese, and all that are touched by the earthquake and tsunami. God help us all.

A large portion of the Japanese will be without power and possiblely running water in some areas for a long time. It is a horrible thing that has happened over there. But it is time to think, if it happened there it can happen here. If you are not in a earthquake zone then there is allways something that can effect you and your way of life. No one will ever be fully prepared for everything that we may face but we must remember Proverbs 27:12 The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. Never in my life do i remember the world being so turbulant with wars and mother natures wrath. All I can say is it is time to Prepare. However I think on this forum I am just preaching to the choir.
When an emergency is upon you the time for preparation has past.

I was just saying the same thing to some friends and family... In 4 decades I never remember, or have I been told (when young), global events being in such FREQUENCY and INTENSITY... Something is going on... and I think I know what. As one that does not believe in a secret ticket outta here during Sunday brunch, we are in for some interesting times...
