  • Beware of the Friends and Family plan

This story is possibly true, accurate and it doesn't violate any laws or inhibits learning. Hint hint

Hmmm me thinks that someone got to spend some time in a padded room recently :) When Mr. Wilks gets out I bet his sister isn't invited to his retreat. At first I thought this was a survival short.

Zombies are everywhere aren't they Mr. Wilks?

pretty interesting, I feel sorry for the guy. If my family did that to me then I don't know what I would do.

I don't understand the discontent for people that do or wish to prep? My work fellows put me down for it. They say I am wasting money and time, also that I am paranoid. However, their criticism always ends when I put it like this?

If I am right and there is ever a disaster... Then my prepping will come in handy and my family could have a better chance at living.

If I am wrong and there never is a disaster... Then I have spent a long time getting food and ammo ready, learning new trades and thinking about my families safety. The food I've collected can be eaten... The ammo I've purchased can be used for target practice and outdoor recreation.

In the end weather I am right or wrong... I win.

Lord save us from interfering relatives and friends. This story reminds me of the New Jersey case where the poor guy spend 7 months in jail on gun charges because his mother was worried about his mental health due to a recent divorce. I'm sure you've all heard about this case.

However, it just seems that something is missing from this story. Mental health professionals and facilities as so busy and overcrowded, it seem unlikely that they would admit someone for such a minor complaint.

In reality, there a lots of families who will not tolerate any of their members going away from the family script. You see it all the time. The family will use increasingly intrusive techniques to be sure the offending member is returned to the families view of the world.

Man I feel bad for him. I will pray for him and I am sorry that happened. That has brought me down and made me pucker some. I hope Mr Wilks finds others around him who support him and is able to recover and his family just lets him be after he quits telling them anything other than hi howya doing. Perhaps I need to quit complaining about mine who are ignoring me

Sheesh, I write a story and I get flak for it..... thats the world for ya. ;) Everybody is a critic, lol

Benn- Luckily for me, I only got to escort this young man. Although.... a quick trip to get away from it all does sound nice doesn't it? I think I would rather go to the Bahamas though.... :)
He will be let loose at some point tomorrow, I think. Hopefully, he was ok throughout his stay.

Something that Monkeybird hit on which was a good point- MHU (mental health units) are becoming over crowded. However- a usual first timer is monitored for 24-72 hours depending on the issue. Some of them are normal people, who either God has given a lot on their plate to them, or they just had some rough times. Those do not frighten me....

It;s the ones who are repeaters and willing come back that scare me. And those will continue to scare me due to some of them being rather large- either due to the drugs they are on or the hormones that course through their bodies. The strength that some of them have is beyond frightning. And knowing a few of them- you are going to have to use a lot of lead to bring them down.

Couple of probs here. First is that he will never be able to buy another gun at a gun shop. (If you've ever spent even ONE night in a mental hospital, you will never be able to buy a gun again, even if they didn't find a problem) and second, it sounds like the sister needs to be in the next room over. His opsec sucks. He should have been telling them he was doing something else. If the end result is the same, what difference does it make what package it comes in?

That sister is an evil person and should be the one in lock up.

Everyone probably thought Noah was crazy building that really big boat of his too. Fact is, historically, everytime God's people turned away from him. He destroyed them! Why should today be so different? We are living in a morally corrupt world, (worse in my opinion than Noah's days.) I have been accused of wearing a tin foil hat, and they call my basement the "bunker" too. But before I get thrown in the "home," I will go down swinging, one round at a time.

I can never see the logic in the discrimination for people that prep for disaster? Most people that say it's a waste of money to stock on food and ammo probably waste their money on things like Tabloid articles and video games. I think it's good to have an equilibrium with the two. I may put a percentage from my pay into survival but I also put some into my own hobbies and likes.

I think there's an OPSEC message here, although I have to admit it's hard when it's your own family, if you can't trust your blood who can you trust?

I do recall a particularly heated debate I had with the wife a little while back about my prepping activities. It got to a point I had to ask if she knew what she was arguing against? I remindered her that she was arguing against my sense of responsability and commitment to my family's safety and welfare. I'm sure she had images of me heading to a bar everynight running thru her head. Once reminded that it's my love of them that's a driver to prepping, it slurped a lot of the fire from her. And while it hasn't been smooth sailin' from there on out, things can, and have, been lot easier.
