  • It's raining stupidity

I come out of the engine room and get a cup of coffee, commence to take care of my logbooks and paper work, etc. One of the guys is watching MTV Cribs. These people are something else. They have a camera follow them around their house to show off all of their stuff. They show off their cars, and jewelry and all that. Then, whoever this was, sits down on a couch in his robe, pulls out a stack of money, and "makes it rain," while chanting "I make it rain." I guess you "make it rain" when you throw a bunch of money into the air. Cajuns "make groceries." "We're getting low on food so we we need to go make groceries tomorrow." That seems more sensical. Some people use their money to "make rent," or the mortgage.
I bet these idiots out there that "make it rain" couldn't make it a week, if the store shelves were empty.
The arrogance and self fraud that has permeated our society these days is really nauseating. This hip hop, pop culture, seems to have gone beyond "keeping up with the Jones." It is interesting to see the ones who hit big success initially, spent their money on cars, diamonds for their teeth, and making it rain, and who end up broke in a few years or a decade.
Isn't there an endless number of passages in the bible about being humble? Maybe these folks aren't religious. Hard to tell, because most of them have a large cross hanging from their neck, or tattooed on their body. Not to offend anyone, but I never understood the idea of showing my devotion or appreciation of God, through the act of sinning, you know the whole, body is a temple thing. It seems like the definition of irony.
But what gets me is that most of these people are committing the double fraud. They are being dishonest, and portraying themselves as more than they are, by bragging and show boating. Yet, they probably realize that they are full of sh!t. I mean, there is no denying that if you own a Ferrari, you own a Ferrari, plane and simple. If it makes you happy to have a Ferrari, by all means, have one. That is the benefit of earning money; to get things that make you happy. But it is like the car doesn't make them happy, just the people who are envious about the fact that you have a car. Why buy a yacht to impress people if you don't like boats? But they go to these extremes to put on a show. And their happiness seems to come from the admiration of others, about this fake image. It just boggles the mind. I am no expert, and I can't afford close to a Ferrari, so maybe I'm mistaken. But it seems to me, that behavior isn't how you grow and sustain a fortune that can be passed along to your children and family. "Well, I had to work my way through college to get this $40K a year job, but dad used to make it rain."
This type of mentality, and the mentality of the people who actually want to watch this crap, are just one more sign of how far our society has slipped downhill. When I look around and see the various forms or society's degradation in values, priorities, and attitudes, it re-enforces my thought that when TSHTF, it won't be contained to a reasonable level. So many people have no class and no scruples anymore. When things start to go, because of this shallow, meaningless values system and view of the world so many people have, it will go real fast, reach very deep, and be real bad. I just had to vent some of this out. Thanks for the sounding board.

Yes Bull, it is sad. The people who get them the money, the people who buy the CDs and go to their concerts, are dirt poor. I have employed many of these folks who get rent subsidies, food stamps, etc. because their education and job skills can only get them a just-above minimum wage job. In the evenings, rather than attending school or practicing a trade or taking on a part time job, they get with their friends and talked about "getting their big break" in the hip-hop world. It's like going from day-to-day, planning on winning the lottery for your retirement instead of putting money (or preps) away for the future. The show boaters; rap stars, football, basketball, baseball players promote the dream and don't help out their old neighbors with education or job training. They just promote the dream.

@ Bill Foster - Yeah, it's amazing. If you look cool, have a foul mouth, flashy cars, clothes, and jewelry, you're an icon. Speak proper English and have a Masters or Doctorate, and your a mark. If you work hard for a living and make moderate income, you are a nobody. The perception os some folks is a shame. If one of the guys you mentioned did start working to improve himself he would probably get ragged on by the others. Then, if he worked hard enough and became successful, he would have some liberal tell him that he was "fortunate," and that he shouldn't mind sharing more of his money with others who were "less fortunate." If one could orchestrate and create this mentality that so many suffer from, is has to be the ultimate method of having a society destroy itself.

I despise MTV nowadays, but at its launch, when it was actually music, I watched it daily while going to high school.

But to address your comment; I am not so concerned about these idiots who make their millions off of extremely crappy music and buy all the things you mentioned. Why? Because they are idiots, and they waste their money = helping the economy = employing others

Not to start an argument but wouldn't you say they do more wrong for society than good?

Nope, well, let me rephrase, not a concern of mine. My kids are forbidden from watching or listening to such crap. Wife likes reality shows, but she is very good (thankfully) of watching it on the bedroom tv so not to infect the kids. :)

I think it is another way to re-enforce bad attitudes and ways of thinking. Some music surely has a negative affect, but I think it reflects a culture more than it creates one, even if the two are closely in step.

Good point. I would have to agree. I just look at it as one more indication of how far we're sliding backwards as a society.

@Bull: you only have to go as far back as last week's Supreme Court ruling 8-to-1 on that psycho church. Granted I do not like the speech they are spewing, but they are still Americans, and the decision should have been UNANIMOUS. I know that upsets some, but we cannot pick and choose what Americans get what rights. We can always protest right beside them and just yell louder. :)

Give a product of the Entitlement Society a million dollar signing bonus and KABOOM!!! you have comedy.

Most of the stuff these folks have is leased; houses, cars and jewelry, and they dissappear within 3-5 years and are living back in the same place they came from broke as hell.

Hell give me a million dollar signing bonus.....me, my family and my retreat will dissappear..lol

@Klayton - As much as I wish we could find something horrible to do to these idiots protesting at funerals for veterans, the purpose of free speech rights is to protect unpopular speech. If it was popular and everyone agreed, you would need no protection, so I agree with you.

@ Benn Gleck - that's great, I'll have to remember that one.

I see rap stars, football and basketball players, singers, actors, - the list goes on - living a life of excess and waste. One well known rap star bought an estate outside of Chicago that was over 100 years old. The grounds has been cultivated with species of trees that grow no where else in that area. The rapper cut down EVER tree on the place. Why? He didn't like trees. When the neighboring land owners tried to stop him, he charged them with racism as he the only black in the area. By the time it went through the court - all the trees were gone.

Perhaps I'm just one drop of water but I refuse to watch any TV program or movie, listen to any music, read any book in which people who glamorize their useless lives receive any money.

More often than not, these people are not only useless and arrogant - they are miserable. Drugs, sex and rock and roll. i.e. they do not have a personal code of conduct, nor a personal sense of morality. Look at Charlie Sheen, Brittney Spears, Lindsey Lohan. I'm sure the list could go on and on.

But what really disturbs me is that the people who financially support these idiots - think they can follow their immoral lifestyle. I believe Mike Huckabee got in trouble last week when he pointed out that a pregnant rich celebrity can afford a child out of wedlock - the girls who follows her example cannot. Children born under to underage, single women, grow up in poverty and the cost of it's birth as well as it lively hood falls on the tax payer. Huckabee was demeaned and reviled in the media. I can remember that having a child out of wedlock was not something to celebrate!

It's this kind of moral decay that is tearing our society apart at the seams.

                            @monkeybird: well said indeed.

I concur, our society seems to favor immoral behavior more than it favors moral behavior.

But didn't it really start with the government (shocking i know)? They penalize (or did it change) married couples, and favor single people shacked up together. Single mothers refuse to get married because they get more welfare being single, so they just shack up with the father of their kid(s), or as in many cases, the father of atleast (they hope) one of the many kids...

Society will be reset soon, the only hope I have is that my family survives and is part of the new world... :)
