Klayton - political correctness is offensive to me and I am NOT politically correct. However, comments that say you are going to re-program anyones brain -male or female - is wrong. First of all, the number of children anyone has is a personal decision. I'd like to see large families because believe me people like you and me are dying out. However, the remark cannot be taken as a compliment regardless of how you look at it.

Does your view of spreading your genes around include MARRAGE?

Now that is a classic - neanderthal comment. Reminds me of something that the Taliban might say.

You guys owe us ladies an apology. Remember all you guys with sweet little girls - they all grow up. How would you like someone reprograming their brains so they become breeding stock or eating their dogs?
My point is that I hate "toy" dogs. The term "rich girl dogs" is in reference to the carried in the purse fashion dogs that serve no purpose. It's the Paris Hilton reference. If my daughter turned into that then I would be ashamed. And yes, their dogs are less worthy than mine. If I was stranded in the woods with a little rat dog and my GDS and one of them had to go... There is no question which one would be used for bear bate.

I am a man and I took no offense at either comment , this is a survival blog and in saying that the rich girl with her ( IMO ) useless pet ( not a dog at this point ) needs to be reprogrammed ( I understood , meant change her its all about me and what people can do for me attitude ) and that her dog , that has been reprogrammed by said female/male to lose all its dogs characteristic's is good for nothing but bait or food is semi-sarcastic , but alas also semi-true . As far as breeding goes , I have been here just a few and I enjoy reading different points , even when made in jest . I am lucky in that I have a son , but God forbid he brought home a female like the ones the comments were directed at . I would hope I brought my son up better then that .
We all know , at least I hope we do or we wouldn't be here , that there will be a lot of useless and deadweight people out there when SHTF and I put the stereotypical female that we are talking about at the top of the list , now I also believe that a lot of their male counterparts will be a close second . So if we are talking about Darwin and thats where this was headed , these types will be erased faster then a donut at a policeman's convention . These stereotypes will be become the plaything of anyone bigger/stronger that comes along , so unless they are reprogrammed/change their way of thinking , they are just a waste of food and drink for someone who could actually help society after a disaster .

It is interesting to note that some of the toy breeds are very old. The Pekinese which was breed in ancient China had the sole purpose of be the dogs whose barks awoke the large guard dogs. We see this today in most toy breeds. They are excellent alarm dogs.

Interesting. Perhaps it's not the dog - but the owner?

In the PAW, it'll be interesting how many men will need to be reprogramed. Perhaps they will be useful pulling a plow.

I agree , most people will need reprogramming/retraining in PAW and I know I'm one of them . I take a lot for granted , but I am trying to better myself by learning as much as I can . We as a society have let ourselves to be bred downwards , like most dogs . The dogs now are nothing like their predecessors and it has hurt most breeds , who cares about their hair color and their looks , I want a dog that will work , play , protect , and if needed to die for me . I will treat this dog like a dog , not like a pampered pooch , he knows I am alpha and he respects it and has a great life for it . I look at what my grandfathers and grandmothers used to do to make ends meet and sometimes I'm embarrassed at how easy and lazy we have become as a nation , this includes our pets .
Cats used to be used to keep the mice and snakes down , now we get all antsy when they drop one on the doormat . Dogs used to pull wagons , herd sheep , protect the house and family, hunt , now we buy collars to make them quiet down ( I don't , I praise my dog , when he barks at things , that need barking at ) , I don't get mad when I open the front door and my dogs rush towards it and then once they recognize it's me , they sit down and let me praise and show them some affection . They are doing their job . I am ashamed that I have an Awesome waterdog and my training skills are lacking in that area and it seems that people guard it , so I am probably teaching my dog the wrong training by whatever book has been written lately and I haven't read , so Im not in the know .

Hmmmm..... I dunno. Pulling a plow??? Me? Thats going to be a lot of programming monkeybird. ;)

Pekinese are old dogs, that much is true. However, I think people are thinking about the tea-cup things in a purse that you see Paris Hilton with. Those dogs are not good for much. Pekinese are at least somewhat intelligent and also loyal. A tea-cup rat on a string on the other hand....

Klayton and Mikeg175 did hit one thing down for now- people are going to have to be re-programmed. Where as it is men or women, there are a lot of skills that have been forgotten. And at the same time, some of the roles of women and men will have to be either abated, re-concieved, or gone back to how it was a long time ago- like the men work the fields, cattle and all that while women do the cleaning of the house, cook and take care of the children. Of course, if women want to work the fields and I get to cook and clean- no problem there.

It truly is about adapting and overcoming. A animal is either going to be a help or a hinderence. How it is bred and trained depend on the owner.

Well said arcangel. Everyone will have to learn to do just about everything differently. Personally, I have no problem with doing traditional women's jobs. I excel at them. However, don't think you're dealing with an intellectual lightweight because I can't pull a plow. Don't discount the wisdom and problem solving abilities of women, or try to dominate any person because of their race or sex. Period.

You're right about animals either being useful or a burden. Those that cannot provide a function should be painlessly put down. But, do we feel the same way about people? In tribal societies, the infirmed or elderly were cut out of the tribe and left to die when they could no longer contribute to the tribe. While I believe that God should hold the power of life and death, some people disagree.

Anyway - this a long way off the subject and require very deep thought.

Arcangel, are you in the healthcare professions? I'm a RN, so we both realize just how useless some people can be.

That's actually not a bad idea...

How to maintain a homestead that won't attract people in the SHTF. How to talk to people to leave your stuff alone. When to get violent, and how not to resort to it. Those things are very important.

I believe that the "re-programming" being talked about is the rapid form of the "re-programming" many of us have gone through over the years. I also think that the comments made by Klayton were in reference to his children marrying the former rich girls, thus spreading his genes, not taking multiple women as "spoils".

As for me, I have two pitt mixes, both look aggressive, but I think they may prove to be scardey cats if ever a threath arises.

I was hoping to see a good comeback from you in reading through the last page MB! Good job!

Alright folks, let's keep the "big dog vs. little dog" and gender wars off the site. We all know men are always right and big dogs is the correct answer..... (ducks while MB throws a rock at him) :) Just kidding around...

Don't underestimate these gals, guys, they are super resilient and tougher than you realize. I taught my wife to fight on the ground, standing up, with a knife and with guns. I hope one day I don't regret those decisions!!! LMAO

Advantages to NOT having a dog??

In a SHTF situation, assuming you have an fairly isolated retreat, would a barking dog ATTRACT zombies to your location? If the dog is killed it's usefulness as protection is gone, and now you have unwanted guest at your retreat.

Please don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs, have one now, and would like to get another, but am just wondering if having one in a SHTF situation is the best idea...

I think their are disadvantages to everything. Where having a dog could have some set backs, it seems to be to have more advantages. Some of those advantages like extra security, companionship, hunting and entertainment seem to make it's case.
