We all eventually get into a discussion on parking with someone weather it's a spouse, parent or whoever. I usually lose but here are my reasonings.

Reasons Not to Park Near The Buildings You Will Enter Under NORMAL Circumstances

1. Every step is a step towards a better workout. Being in shape and weight loss begins with a mindset change to do harder things.
2. If the building is destroyed due to a manmade or natural disaster the rubble will destroy or damage vehicles nearby with debris.

3. In emergencies the thought is closer is better however when people rush to leave the nearest will become bogged down much as a parking lot at a theatre when the movie ends with cars and pedestrians alike.

4. If you do not get out immediately the responding emergency vehicles will clog the nearest roadways and parking areas.

5. You leave the closer parking for people who need it such as the elderly and medical needs and continue to weaken the zombies of the world.
6. You will help build toughness and weather resistance. I see folks I know park close and run into the store because it's "cold". So sad:(

Parking out a ways all by yourself I think you are less likely to be messed with robbed, keyed ,door dinged etc. not to mention not as many places for bad guys to hide.

I park far away for many reasons but the MAIN reason is gangs...
Allow me to explain, back in the 90s there was a gang in San Antonio that had a very horific gang initiation.

A gang potential would HIDE under a car that was parked at the underground parking of one of our malls (that mall is a ghost town now because of this and has never recovered).
The punk would pick a car that he saw a woman by herself. Wait until he saw her starting to return. The exit door of the mall was very well lit, so they could ID people leaving easy before they hit the crappy lighting of the underground parking garage. He would then slide under her car, wait for her to stop and unlock the door to get in, REACH OUT, GRAB HER ANKLE WITH ONE HAND, AND USE THE OTHER HAND TO SLICE THROUGH HER ACHILLE TENDON!! Now she cant run away, he would beat her until she stopped shouting, then pull her into her own car and rape her.

So I ALWAYS park far away, and this gives me and my wife the ability to see UNDER our vehicle as we approach it. =)
