Anyone Else Collect Copper Pennies?

My wife is a cashier at a grocery store and gets at least one silver coin a week. Last week she got two dimes because she was working near the Coinstar machine and it doesn't take silver coins. The guy ran them through a second time and my wife ended up giving him two regular dimes for the silver ones. So, 20 cents for about $4 is a good trade.

Might I ask why pre 1950 nickels? I know that the "war time nickels" have 35% silver. I was wondering what is special about the post war - 1950 coins? Thanks guys.

i toss them aside just because they're getting real scarce,maybe one in every 500 I handle. even pre 64 are getting scarce.
