  • I guess I'm an A$$ who lacks compassion !!

Ok , if anyone lives on the East Coast they know we got a little snow last week and it FUBAR'd a lot of places . Well , I had to go out for work ( emergency type stuff ) and I head out . I have 4 vehicles that I drive , a Yukon Denali , Honda Pilot ( wifes ) , a lifted 4 Door Wrangler ( lockers and winch , and other goodies ) and my Bug out Ford Excursion ( lifted and working on the accessories atm ) . If you notice a common denominator is that they are all 4X4 and half are made for extreme conditions .

I figure now is a good time to put the Excursion to a little testing , I know the Jeep handles anything and everything , so I head to my first address to assist the family . All of my vehicles have Plano boxes loaded with extraction tools ( straps , come alongs , jumper cables , gloves , hitch d rings and so forth ) so I can rescue just about any vehicle needed . As I am heading down the roads I am constantly being passed by little sedans and minivans and then passing them sitting in the berms a few miles down the road . I had one A-hole tailgate me for a mile , then when got his chance zipped by to immediately slide in a guard rail . This is where I lack compassion and patience , I stopped my vehicle affirmed no kids in the car and then kept on going .

I have a firm believe in Darwin and if the huge off road vehicle is going a nice safe speed and you want to pass me , you are fine sitting in a ditch waiting for a tow truck . This storm was announced a week early and then from the day before till it hit , people were warned to get home and get off the roads . They didn't listen and I am not about to put myself at risk by stopping on the side of the road where everyone is sliding into everything and everyone to pull people out every 100 yards . I don't feel even a tiny bit of remorse in not helping the idiots who felt they had to rush through the snow to get somewhere in vehicles not made for anything other then a commute .

I hope these people learned a lesson , but I doubt any will and next time I will pass them by again and go help those who need it and didn't cause it themselves by being an idiot . Sorry for the rant ..

Mike you're not an A$$. I'm laughing my butt off right now because those idiots you so aptly described learned how to drive via xbox. I'm loving it because the company I work for sells supplies to automotive body shops. I truly smile when they wreck.
Stand next to me and you'll never stand alone.

Hey mikeg175! From one a-hole to another! lol I retired out of LE because it occurred to me one day that we spent most of our time rescuing people from their own stupidity, or trying to act sympathetic to someone who had received what they so richly deserved and had been begging for!

I just wonder how many millions of people will be eliminated by their own stupidity, if and when a truly EOTWAWKI situation really hits, that last through just 1 winter. I'm not talking about being killed off by asteroids, plagues, earthquakes, raiders, zombies, etc. I'm talking about shooting themselves in the knee with their quick draw 44 mag., blowing up their gasoline stash with their barbecue grill, or cooking indoors with their carbon monoxide cookers, and on and on. I don't know whether I want to laugh or cry! lol

Redistribute the Wrangler to me now!
        j/k

In FL, we can have problems when we get cloudburst on the interstate. Made for some interesting experiences for me and those around me.

The situation you describe is one of the main reasons I left San Antonio. I was there and it snowed for the first time in 13 years. The locals all got together and said, "Hey look! It's snowing! Lets go for a drive!" The first day they had over 400 traffic accidents. They finally just closed Loop 410. Considering the majority of the people there drive exactly the same way reguardless of conditions, I wasn't terribly surprised. Every year, about Nov. they have a pretty good deluge or two. The sewers back up, or whatever they have that passes (with a D-) for storm drainage, and every year there is a news report about some nitwit that drove around the barricades and had to be pulled out of the raging stream they were floating away in. They won't put in a real storm drain system because, hey, it only happens once a year, right? I learned to drive in Missouri, so it didn't bother me at all, but I didn't go out in it anyway. Not with half a million certifiable idiots out there playing bumper cars.

I moved back to Missouri and the biggest thing here is college kids who think that just because their Suzuki is four wheel drive, they can go in the ice and snow. The car doesn't weigh 1500 pounds, but they think they can do it anyway. When it snows a lot, like it's getting ready to (12-18 inches forecast) I just stay home. I don't have to go, so I don't.

Mike I spent 6.5 hours in the E Street Tunnel (a 300 yard tunnel) last Wednesday night here in DC because of fools on 66, GW Park and Rt 50 didn't understand snow/ice doesn't equal drive faster to get home safe. Like Tofu said, most of them learned winter driving on xBox I guess. After seeing the craziness here I think you're just calling it like it is. The lesson I learned here was for the DC/Baltimore metro areas when things appear bad we can't pause to get out. If we wait we'll get trampled by the folks running around like they lost their heads.

Heck, people here in Michigan drive like idiots during the first snowstorm of the year. People think they can drive the same crazy way no matter the weather. Just this morning I had an idiot tailgating me and then zip around once the road opened up. He didn't wreck but he did fishtail a bit as he started to speed away. I'm with you Mike, let Darwin do his thing.

All i know is i feel safer walking down I-95 in broward county during rush hour, in flip flops down the center line than i ever would just walking through the parking lot of a Canadian tire in Ontario. lol
