  • Symbolic vote

I just came home from a nice evening with the lady to hear some news story saying " the Republicans are set to issue a "symbolic vote" tomorrow. I didn't have to hear any more. The message the media is sending is subtle, and constant, and thus, effective. A "symbolic" vote is a vote that doesn't mean anything except as a symbol. It isn't a vote about anything important, or anything the constituency wants, it isn't anything based off American values or the will of the American people. It is only symbolistic. As in, it is only a political move, and thus, a posturing, opportunistic, shallow attempt to gain political favor for some underhanded scheme to appeal to certain people at a given time. That is the underlying implication. The media are full of messages with those types of meanings. This is why they are able to sway public opinion so much. Of course you don't hear those same adjectives used to describe the recent shooting. If they came right out and said what they want you to think, it might not go over so well with a lot of people. Anyway, I just got irritated by this because it is this type of thing that influences the sheep and the zombies, because they don't read or hear between the lines. I just wanted to vent and see if you guys notice similar things perhaps, or if I might just be a bit high strung. I can't help but notice the subtle differences that alter the impression of the event being "reported." It makes me think of the "New York Banner" in Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. A great read for anyone.

When you watch the news and you see things like this where 70% of the American population thinks one way and our Government thinks oppisite. This is why we then come to sites like this forum to get prepard for our uncertain future. "We The People" is not as powerful as it once was. 2011 and 2012 will make 2008-2010 look like the good years as far as the economy goes. (My opinion) But when you watch the news take it with a grain of salt and prepare, prepare, prepare.
When an emergency is upon you the time for preparation has past.
