  • No Respect For Life

Not being a Christian, I’d never bothered to check out the Prayer room, but today I did and the first thing I came upon was a video someone had posted was a video of a woman extolling the virtues of abortion.

It got me thinking to a couple of days ago, when I was over on youtube watching a few hunting videos, as you can imagine the comments section was packed with uninformed people talking about how ‘cruel’ and ‘unnecessary’ hunting was. Now when a hunter quite rightly pointed out that animals populations needed managing, some smart Alec pipes up ‘humans are overpopulated, and there damaging the planet, bla, bla, bla. ‘

These are not two isolated incidents either, every day when we look around us, we see immeasurable amounts of selfishness and just generally destructive and negative thought patterns.

    Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

We all know that in the event of societal collapse, break down of law and order, people will be hungry and desperate, but at the same time I there may be a lot of people just running wild, committing deplorable acts, just because they can get away with it in the chaos.....:(

i wonder who put up that lady speaking about abortion video

Triple-Sod, all you have to do is look at the video files and news files of what happened during Katrina.
There were people raping 9 y/o girls in the superdome, less than 30' from their sleeping family.
Then you got the idiots shooting at aircraft that was trying to send aid.

I think when SHTF and WROL there will be A LOT of people committing a lot of crime and mayhem in general.
I really feel bad for any woman that is unarmed and by herself in a SHTF situation... :(

I was 15 at the time of Katrina but I do remember a few of the stories that made it into the UK press. One thing that sticks in my mind was an interview with a British man who had been there with his wife at the time. He was saying how at night in the superdome, he and a group of men would stay awake form a circle for their women folk to sleep in.

Yeah me too, on the bright side though, when things stabilize society will probably be a lot nicer.

It's a sad situation. I think that people will thin out one way or another. It could be war, disease, economic collapse, overpopulation leading to chaos, or whatever. It might not be so beneficial for that to happen if there weren't so many uncivilized animals among us, but that is a fact of life. One thing that helps me deal with that reality is to realize that there is a pecking order. One of strength, one of intelligence, of decency, of work ethic, and a lot of other things. So, those decent folks among us, who aren't predators, stupid, scum of the earth, should do much better in a SHTF situation. I'm not planning on opening up my doors and welcoming folks to share my food and everything, but if I ran across someone, and I got the feeling they were "good" morally or otherwise, I would be a lot more likely to consider it. My point there is that even if you are some guy that hasn't prepped, doesn't have many survival skills, isn't athletically inclined to be good for security or war fighting, and basically only has the attribute of being a good person, that puts you higher on the pecking order than some dishonest scoundrel. "Pecking order" probably isn't the best phrase but there is worth in individuals, and some are definitely worth more than others, even if it is only through there good graces and disposition. So, I can't help but to think that through God, some sort of natural, normal, worldly justice like a karma type thing, or whatever, good people are better off. Surely plenty of good people will be screwed, but the general idea holds true. Obviously, if you have specific skills and attributes like intelligence and physical ability you are better off, but I can't help but to think that the scum bags out there are going to get thinned out more drastically, more rapidly, or both, than people of a higher standard. I could go on for a while trying to support this but it seems obvious to me that those scumbags out there are going to flip out when TSHTF, but they won't last, and we'll end up with mostly decent people. So, after a tough battle, the war will be won by the decent folks among us. The justice in that makes me feel better about TSHTF.

hate to be blunt mate, but the only human life I value is me and mine.. That includes friends and family. In a post SHTF situation like Katrina, you go after my group, girls, family; you better make peace with whoever you pray to (or not), cuz you will be sent there. I may have a couple of nightmares, but honestly, my Karma and conscious will be clean as a spring morning.

For the Christians on the board.. I am curious how many of you have studied the bible with somebody who can read/write in Hebrew.. the commandment "thou shall not kill" is actually "thou shall not commit murder".. big difference eh?

@fall out boy, did you find the video? I think I put it in the prayer room, look for a thread started by me... :)

@Boyd, "thall shall not commit murder" finally another person that knows this...

I grew up Lutheran, and what I love most about Lutheran religion, they go through a great deal to help break down everything in the Bible, kill vs murder is just one of them... I am somewhat converted to Roman Catholic, via marriage, funny how that works...

"Though shalt not commit murder." Exactly right. That implies evil and bad intentions. Death, war, and all the things involved with that are covered in the old testament. God was one of the leading causes of death back then. I think it is obvious that certain things must occur, and defending yourself is acceptable, as the aggressor is the one with evil intentions.

:) I'm actually a reformed catholic turned lutheran :) There was an old fellar who helped me quite a bit when I was tossing and turning and wrestling with issues larger than I. Finally he introduced me to a fellow who could read/write in the old language who didn't pull any punches.. And he finished that statement with.... you know the saying what comes around goes around? Maybe for the other fellow you were "what" came around. Then he told me about "thou shall not commit murder".. Total mind blower and the implied guilt I felt fell away.
