  • Congresswoman Gifford (Arizona Democrat Representive) DEAD!!

Reports of the gun violence results in death of Congresswoman Gifford.

I do not know her, but I did a quick vote record search on her:

    11/7/09 Vote 887: H R 3962: Affordable Health Care for America Act> Yes

12/21/10 Vote 662: H R 3082: Appropriations for Military Construction, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies for the Fiscal Year Ending September 30, 2010> No

So, like most Democrats, it seems she was in favor of healthcare for everyone, just not veterans.

Again, I do not know her, and her being shot is trajic.
But the side effect of this, being Arizona, I am sure they will be "looking" at removing the current open carry law and once again restricting gun owners rights once more because of some psycho.

    >>>update<<< she is actually in critical condition, and NOT dead...

according to the sites, and a medical up link, she is currently in surgery with a supposed gunshot to the head. I am sure you are right in saying that this will have some repercussions for the gun laws.

Supposedly, she was out doing a meet and greet with the people, which is normal and customary for her..... I can't remember the last time any of my Congress people had a meet and greet.

Oh she survived? WOW I guess that reporter spoke too soon, and stupid me passed it on here. Sorry about that guys.

But unfortunately another radio spokesman said on the way home that a child was one of the ones listed as dead. :(

        How truly sad...

I also heard that the shooter wasn't a "tea party nut" as they like to say, but a leftist nut. I cannot verify that right now though.

There was also a federal judge and a nine your old girl amongst the victims.

Some of the news channels listed the shooters myspace page...man this guy is a complete nut!

Congresswoman Gifford was also a big gun rights supporter.

Discusting...the political blame game is running wild :(

All you hear on CNN over and over is the shooter had a high capacity magazine in his gun, which is what let him shoot so many.

I mean OVER AND OVER they are saying this. Liberals! BAH any chance they can exploit a psycho to help their "no guns for anybody" policy they will.

Yep. If there had been a few law abiding, gun carrying, citizens there, maybe he would only have gotten off a couple of shots. Who knows how many lives might have been saved if there had only been more citizens carrying guns at that location. Perhaps the 9 year old girl would still be alive.

I'm looking at some congresswoman saying we should have more gun control right now. This, of course, before we even learn if the individual had that gun legally or not in the first place.

Regardless of our politics and thoughts take a moment and remember to say a prayer for them all. I know we all agree the 9yr old had no part of anything and was an innocent and deserves prayer. There are many devastated famlies this morning and many people who's lives were changed forever by this sad event.

A senseless and stupid act of violence. It is indeed a tragedy that Member of Congress should have to fear for their lives when meeting with their constituents. The shooter, according to Homeland Security, is a member of a group called 'American Renaissance '. The group is anti-semitic, anti-government and anti-emigration reform. Shooting people because you don't agree with them is morally wrong. Period. I pray for all those killed and injured in this terrible shooting.

I hate that the media and some members of the public believe that if you take guns away from everyone, this type of violence will stop. They are reacting to the emotion of the moment, and fail to consider that illegal weapons are in the hand of criminals. Granted, the background check of this person was not complete because those in authority are being so politically correct that they fail to report or take action on the shooter's obvious mental health condition.

Federal privacy laws forbid the reporting of mental illness, HIV and similar conditions, without the expresses signed permission of the individual. This law makes it very difficult to those in the medical profession to report mental illness to ANYONE, including other medical professionals. That is probably why there was no record of his mental illness in the background check.

I'm don't believe the media is reacting to the "emotion." If their emotion were to be defined, it would probably be something near elation, because they get such a great opportunity to push their gun control agenda. Like Obamas head dog washer said, the administration "can't let a good crisis go to waste." The media is all too eager to fall in line and help with the left agenda. I was flipping through the various news outlets last night and watched CNN suggesting that this guy was probably affiliated with the Tea Party and right wing politics. They also stated how "unacceptable" it was to allow someone with a "criminal history and mental history" to "legally" buy a firearm. Just get ready. They have no limits to the control they want. The push for our guns will continue. If you ever took any medication like ritalin, or anything for stress, depression, or anything even close, then obviously you shouldn't be allowed to have a gun. This has already been attempted with our veterans. "Oh you're stressed out because you just came back from fighting a war, huh? We better not let you have a gun here." Anyway, here is some good stuff from Denninger if you're interested:

Anybody notice how the media is emphasizing the size of the clip was 31 rounds (stupid sheriff, its 30-but anyway). They are pointing to the fact that when he went to reload is the only time anybody could stop him.

                          GET READY FOR IT!!

I am seeing another run of the Brady Bill with 10RD if not 5RD capacity magazines only coming to a store near you....

Watched the recap of the shooting this morning, and am angry because it seems that the talking heads, newspaper reporters, arizona mayors, etc, etc are saying that it's the tea party and Sarah Palin's fault that the shooting occurred. What's worse is the the NYT reporter says it's Fox News's fault and Beck and Hannity are responsible.

This in my opinion is the extreme left doing it's best to destroy the conservative movement in the U.S. As usual, any intelligent discussion about the facts are ignored so that the conservatives can be smeared.

I get so tired of being verbally attacked because I'm a Christian and a conservative. It seems that no tragedy is too awful to be used as a political platform.
