  • Odds on snap/ebt cutoff???

    As far back as I can remember, even seeing in old skewl survivalist literature from the 70's, there was talk of "if welfare is shut down" and how cities will burn because of it, etc.

    Well I can't think of a time in the past where this could have been more of a possibility than now. Dems are playing hard ball with Trump re: the shutdown.

    I do NOT think it will come to that. Most negotiations are 11th hour deals. And a lot of repubs are pretty spineless truth be told, so I expect some compromise on the 30th or 31st.

    What do you think the odds are that this will come to being?

    LOTS of folks already pre-freaking out on social media talking about how they are going to just walk out of stores with carts of free stuff, etc. (like they don't do that now????). Even videos warning employees "we ain'ts got nuttin to lose, don't try to stop us!" type crap.

    This should, but won't, be a wakeup call to all those who depend on the welfare system to survive. It should also be a wakeup call to Dem voters to stop supporting pols that care only about illegals and their own wallets.

    It's a good time to go back to the old days of govt food handouts (huge blocks of cheese, bags of rice, powdered milk, etc.) and support of food pantries. Unlikely to happen but something has to change to reduce dependency on EBT, SNAP, and other govt programs. No work, no eat is biblical and motivational.

            Not seeing any reports of consequence of riots or massive thefts occurrences yet.
            Wondering how much of the internet media exists to actually make STUFF happen?

            Led again by the ring in our nose.

                Partial payments may delay the reaction expected

                  Sorry, I must be stupid but I don't understand how these federal judges who are a sub-component of the judiciary branch can tell anybody in the executive branch how to run the government.
                  Maybe the R and D parties are the same party? Otherwise, why is the senate NOT recalliing these over the top (little dictator) judges who think from their little fifedom that they run the entire country.
                  Hey, little frogs, you don't matter in the big pond.

                  You viewpoint would be appreciated.

                    If federal judges have this much power, let them order the Dims to open the govt. Now that the SNAP contingency fund is depleted, where do they think the next payment comes from???

                      I'm gonna pitch an out of the box that crossed my mind regarding all the occurrences going on now that I view as distractions.

                      ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++
                      I'm wondering if the shutdown is not being corrected but instead is being dragged out because our government is trying to avoid a USA BANKRUPTCY?
                      ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++

                      Country's are getting rid of any and all of their US Bonds they're holding (or at least trying to minimize their holdings).

                      No mention of the possiblity of USA bankruptcy and it feels like it should at least be mentioned to the public.

                      Wondering if we are being kept in the dark about this possibility exactly as we were kept in the dark that the president was going to shut down the banks back in the 1930's.

                      My grandfather told me about waking up and finding all the banks were closed and the horror that followed.

                      I wonder if I'll wake up one morning to something similar happening to me.

                      AND OF COURSE I WOULD APPRECIATE REPLIES ABOUT MY THOUGHTS.

                      Thanks in advance.

                        Bank closures would more than likely result in riots by (armed) citizens, and a declaration of martial law would soon follow. Would FDIC (didn't exist in the 30s) also fail? We wouldn't starve or die of thirst, but utility bills would probably still come and go unpaid - leaving us vulnerable to temperature extremes and loss of cooking means for many. The 3-day grocery supplies in markets would soon be depleted and for those who haven't prepared, it would be doomsday. Neighbor against neighbor, home invasions, etc. etc. The whole thing would be an ugly scenario in which the socialists would easily gain control. Ugly possibilities.

                          Good thoughts, thanks and it does have potential if all you spoke of happened.
                          But as hard as the great depression was, we forget that 78% of all small businesses DID NOT FAIL.
                          Yes, a significant portion of our citizens had it bad but it was less than 11% of the population.
                          It was a tale of hard times and good times. Everybody had to tighten their belt.
                          Regardless I don't want to experience it but I'm sure going to cover my bases just in case, the same thoughts that tell me to keep having a spare tire in the trunk of the car.

                          :-)
