  • It's coming right for us Ned!!

    Hurricane Idalia

Going to run out and buy bread and milk today... LOL.

Just need to take trash to the dump, top off a few gas cans we have been rotating and pick up some yard tools. Unless this makes a hard left or right turn, looks like it's going to be over us Wednesday late afternoon.

Yesterday: I filled up the 5-gallon cans from the small tanks, then went to the gas station and filled all my small 2-gallon gas tanks, and my car's tank (I can't pick up a 5-gallon gas can although I can move it with the dolly). I started up the generator and it fired right up (I start it every month). I went to the store to get some sinus med, then stopped at Ace Hardware to get an empty propane tank filled (the tank on the grill is full). I took the chairs off the pool deck and stashed them, and put the vacuum brush back in the shed. I did all the laundry in case we lose power. At least we'll have clean clothes, food, and water.

Today: I put the trash cans in the garage, took off the front patio cushions and put them in the garage, and that's about it - we don't have much stuff outside. Called the general contractor and told him to make sure his crew picks up all of their loose "stuff" and lays it by the fence before they leave today (yesterday I bullied him into removing all the bags of trash they left next to the fence - I guess "dumpster" is a foreign word to this bunch😂). Later today I'll pull the flag down.

    Y'all stay safe out there!

Impacts here were minimal. The wind is doing its best to knock down my garden shade structure, but it's not succeeded yet. I'll need to do some repairs once the weather clears, but nothing serious. The rain and wind come in waves as the outer bands reach us. I hope everyone else in the path of this storm is okay!

Wasn't too bad praise The Lord. Weather.com said we were going to have 55mph gusts in the area. If we did they didn't last too long. I stood out and clocked some with my Kestrel and saw some gusts past 30mph.

Commercial power stayed on till about 3pm yesterday and looks like it came back on this morning. With the AE system we had power the whole time just no AC while commercial power was out. Went out in the local area a couple times last night on the Ranger with NODs to take a little ride around and check on the range property also. Didn't hear any generators and only small lights inside a few houses- very dark. During a trip out like that to check the roads a few hours before dark, saw more people sitting outside than I have ever seen in this area, and windows opened on houses I didn't even know the people knew how to open them! Lots of climate controlled folks suffering I think LOL.

Still waiting for the hordes of city vermin looters that Wes promised us...

It wasn't bad here either - enough wind speed to tear down the garden shade structure (I'm taking it all apart today), but not enough speed to send any projectiles our way or to take down the flagpole. We had rain most of the day and moderate winds with some strong gusts, but we were getting just the outer bands. I cleaned up small branches and a lot of twigs in the yard, put garbage cans and patio cushions back where they belong, and I'm done with my post-storm chores.

I hope everyone in the path of this storm came through okay.
