  • Snowpocalpyse coming??

Looks like some very cold weather coming to most of the US later this week.

Showing 19 and 22 here a couple nights later this week- that's extremely cold for these parts.

One thing I've never regretted is not cheaping out on insulation. Will likely add more in the future as well. Another good use for your thermal imager/thermal weapon sight- checking your insulation. It's not uncommon for guys blowing insulation to miss areas either purposely (Bubba can't fit in that section of the attic) or just thinking there was enough in a certain area. Homeowners that have paid someone to do that work (or bought their house already built) may have no idea how much their insulation is lacking.

A thermal imager will show you the real picture of how well insulated your home is.

Looking at the woodsheds and thinking they could be fuller. Cutting firewood in cold weather is always good motivation IMO.

We have 23, 24, and 27 and 34o nights coming, with highs in the low 40s starting Friday, so I hauled in a rack full of firewood, then topped off the firewood cart on the porch. Thinking I need to pull out the garden cart and fill that up with firewood too. That's crazy cold for December and I'm trying to keep our heating bill down, not to mention that I love a wood fire. At the rate I'm going through wood, I may have to order another load.

Haven't seen snow here for a few years - maybe we can have a white FL Christmas🎄☃️🦌

Being one to be prepared, I put the frost blankets on both garden and closed up the little greenhouse after I gave everything a good watering. It's a chilly and damp day here, but the fireplace is ready to light, the inside wood rack is full and the outside log cart is topped off. By midday tomorrow, the fire will be blazing, the house will be warm, and I'll be snuggled up on the couch. I hate cold weather but seems there's no avoiding it! Both of my outside spigots are in protected areas, so I'll just leave them alone despite hard freeze warnings, or just wrap a towel around them.

We are going to see 8 tonight and 4 tomorrow night here in northern Florigabama. We can get Atlanta news here…they ran a special about using electric space heaters safely in case the power goes out. Let that sink in for a moment.

Exactly how are you supposed to run your electric space heater without electricity? Asking for a friend...🙄

              Stay warm and safe!

Hahaha! Electric heater advice for when the power goes out!
Atlanta sure is getting their money's worth of advice from their idiots in charge.

Here in Colorado Springs, was -18 last night. Now, mid morning, it's up to ZERO.
                BUT
It's going toward you so ya'll be careful.
Bourbon Street in NOLA was 27 mid day this morning.

That arctic front should be past me by 9pm tonight. Temps "supposed to" increase thru the night after 9pm. High of 42 mid morning Saturday.
Been mostly living in toy hauler or RV since 1995 and been thru -47, power outages and such and seem to manage just fine.
I'm so old that I figured to live like "stuff" might go away so if it did, my lifestyle wouldn't have to change much.

Funny thing. I have always run full battery/generator inverter. At the kids ranch awhile back the power was dead for some 4 hours. I didn't know it. Kids came over and told me about it. Got their coffee, took showers, cooked a meal and went back to their dark house.

                    So far, so good.
                    :-)

                    Update:
9pm 12/23/2022, temp had gone down from the daytime high of 11F to -2F.
                    by 10pm, temp was +1F
                    At 2am, 12/24/2022 , temp was +27F and by 6am settled down to +21F.
Once the front passed, the temp just slammed up.
At night, it went from -2F to +27. surprising but VERY NICE.

                    Hope it passes Y'all quickly.

It was 26 overnight with a windchill of +8. By 8:30 it was 33, and got into the low 40s in the afternoon, then started dropping off. Back into the 20s again tonight, low 40s tomorrow, wash, rinse, repeat until Wednesday. I'm burning a lot of firewood to keep it warm in here!
