  • what prep did you obtain that you won't need now that storm has passed

anticipating the storm would hit your home, what did you obtain that now you won't need?
in my case i will eventually need the items, but i could have waited and "shopped around" and gotten better prices.
but, early maps showed the storm going directly over our heads.
    1. topped off propane.
    2. bought extra chain loops for chain saws.

i haven't bought spare loops in a while... i was shocked at the new prices!

The only thing I purchased was to top off my car's tank. The rest of my prep involved a lot of physical activity to secure my gardens and any loose items (e.g. lawn furniture, cushions, etc.). What would I change? I'd bring the Coleman camp stove in from the motorhome to have it ready for a power outage. We had a brief outage near dinnertime. Husband said if I had bought the solar generator that he opposed me buying, that would have been handy. He's right. We dodged a bullet when the storm track sent Ian across the state instead of up through the middle. For others, I fear Ian wreaked havoc... for those in the current path, we may see more of the same but on a smaller scale🙏

I didn't really need those clearance M&Ms... but they were half priced and I won't have to buy M&Ms for another 2 years.

LOL at the m &m s -- in a prior house... i had built a large storage room/pantry in the lower level... i didn't get m & m on special, but i had bought two boxes of snickers.. i had to retire to get off the snicker 3 out of 5 day a week habit.. snickers were safely stashed 6' off the floor on a shelf ... it got to where i could smell them everytime i got something from the store room... it was reassuring to know that all would be ok if shtf.. finally, it got to where i had to learn why the snickers were smelling so strong and good...

mices had gotten into both boxes and took a few bites out of every bar. i hope you keep those candies in a secure package.

Really nothing I won't use....I bought ice cream klondike bars which I usually don't have in the house, but it was comfort food and it helped...and a few left over...LOL All the other stuff just added to my preps..water, topping off fuel, etc. Like WWDNET, a lot of mine was prepping the house and tiny home, yard/garden and camper for the wind and rain.

            A portable AC.
well. Bought it over a year ago. Never used it.
we did run the secondary AC just to do it and to pull humidity out of the air inside.
But the smaller roll about just sat there.
Goal was to use the super quite 1k invert/gen to run it at night. But temps dropped so didnt need it.

Mostly just topped of tanks, bought some comfort foods..and spent the dsy before making sure anything rechargeable got charged.

Better rubber boots will be bought for wife and kid .in the future.

Oh, I did not have rubber boots, so my wife and I bought some after the storm. Hard to find two days after the storm, but found some at Academy. Looked at two Tractor Supply stores, WalMart, and Bass Pro. Could we have gotten by without them, sure, but then my regular boots would be wet for days....

Thanks to Protus for reminding me about the boots...

I normally wear my chacos or flops. But not anymore. Getting wiser in my olden years lolol.
Problem with wife kid was kid out grew hers and my wife hot blisters. These are basic construction style rubber boots.
I'll probably invest in hunting /fishing styles like I had before we got these ( mine cracked got leaks). They seem to flex more and have more support

I remember the first time I tried to quite smoking and ate M&Ms instead. Only gained about 30 lbs or so🙄 Next time I ate carrots, which aren't as flavorful but not as fattening either😂

We have a small AC unit in the shed. I used to have it in my office before we upgraded our central air. It still works - we check it every year - but we've never used it since. Our generator will run the central air, so long as we don't run out of gas!

I bought some Timberland waterproof boots back in the day, and I still have them along with some composite toe work boots that need to be resoled. We never get enough water here that I can't just wear an old pair of slip-on sneakers to tromp through some standing water in the yard.

My dad's hunting cabin that I used to live in had mice intrusion issues (stacked rock foundation). I used to keep everything edible (and matches) in canning jars, guaranteed mouse-proof. Now I store all of my pantry dry goods in air-tight containers, like the OXO pop tops. We don't have mice, but I did lose hundreds of dollars worth of flour etc. due to flour beetles.
