  • paranoid?

Curious about something guys and want an opinion. I live in a house that's paid for.. but its not in my name. I pay the taxes in cash, the utilities are still in the name of the realtor (this wasn't on purpose, but still works) and I also pay this in cash, if folks were to google my name they could come up with my Cell # for my business easily enough (and it's a prepaid burner phone that I've kept the number for years), but I have no land line.. Only thing in my name is the cable and internet, and registration and drivers license for cars..

Does this sound overly paranoid? At this point only a Leo would be able to figure out where I live with ease. Is there any other way to lower my footprint?

Any info about me out there is years old with old addresses..

Why bother unless you are activley being hunted? Most encouters even post SHTF will have nothing to do with info. You can restrict youself to a point also that it will become very easy to steal your identity because you will not know being offline. As long as people know you exsist you are not off the grid so again why bother. Even growing up we knew of the "crazy man" who lived back in the sticks and what his name was etc way before the net and phone lines were party lines with rotary phones. If they want some come get some thats my opinion.

Part of my reasoning is I do have folks hunting me. All the time. I take in High risk teens (foster care usually) and have had parents who were put in jail get out and come after the kids for reporting the abuse. I've had an Army Ranger come after me for the same reason. He was deployed in Afghanistan, wife got into trouble, state took the kids and he comes home and goes on a different type of hunt..

I do keep my head down and a low profile, but I take on the more extreme hard cases in general.

Well, for one, I would be more worried about my house being in someone else's name. Unless it is a relative that you can trust completely. Even then, there are better and safer ways to keep your name off the property deed. Look into LLCs and property trusts.

As for the high risk part, all a parent has to do is prove to a court that the accusations were false, and the court will release the kids back to them. So not sure how hiding helps. Next, even if you do hide, the kids have to be enrolled into school and unless you are living in some liberal mega city (Houston, New York, Los Angeles) you are not going to be able to HIDE the kid. Don't forget, kids ALWAYS call old friends, and old friends TALK!

Other than that, you need yard security = quality fencing + motion detection (not as expensive as it sounds) + and exterior camera setup with monitors (bedroom+main living room) (again, not as expensive as it sounds) + if you have a long driveway, install a driveway monitor...

then in addition to this, you need house security system. Always have a cell phone in arm's reach with your local (NON emergency) number on speed dial, as well as 911. The reason for this is most places it is NOT an emergency if someone is in your yard, until they start attempting house entry. And if you are in a state like freaking Maryland, YOU will pay for the 911 call, even if it is a legitimate phone call (been there, done that, had to pay $300 for the service).

going to send pm :) I like the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs.. Do have a sensor for driveway so I know who drives in and out (can't always see from house) and motion detectors do sound like something to look into.

I see that better explains it. Go to the the various search engines and remove your data on each one. You have to request it on each one. Your in a tough spot and pressured the folks you work for will cave in, I've seen it firsthand, not to mention easily obtained files. There is really no way to hide as Klayton stated.

Yeah, but I don't want to serve it up on a buffet. I have an unusual name, and with searching folks will come up with my dad and grandfather first. Its been a couple of years since any serious issues, but if I am not available for easy perusal (like a lot of folks are in the phone book, tax deeds etc) then a lot of folks move on or try other methods.. those other methods are what I am trying to cut down on.

                  Boyd,

I agree with Klayton's comment about the house not being in your name -- when I read the thread title and started reading your post, i assumed it was that fact that had you worried. Maybe you mean the house is in the name of a trust or LLC that you control or of which you are the ebenficiary, but if not, i would never leave the house in a third party's name. At least not if you are the one who paid for the house!

All Talk - All I will say is the house isn't in my name :) But I have avoided the dreaded phone book, and searches over the internet don't yield anything other than I am a 30 something guy who USED to live X and no accurate info on where I am at now...

I am looking to shrink my foot print. Voter registration has also put me on lists I don't like, but I shall always register to vote. I shall always vote. But for some folks, being prepared for TSHTF means TEOFWAWKI and for me it means being able to go into lock down and defend the house and family from hostile folk. I know it isn't foolproof (as I've learned over the years) but I am not looking for confrontation or gunfights from birth parents set on revenge etc.
