Evidently 1 in 6 Americans isn't paying their power bills also?
My first thought was my (thankfully) brief stint as a landlord filling in for someone. It was your classic Georgia summer, 100+ degree days. The rental was out in the open, no tree cover, etc. Had a good AC unit, place was insulated, etc. but the 400 lb. renter couldn't understand why the air unit wouldn't during mid day, cool the house down to 67. Yes 67 degrees. My reply was literally "SIXTY SEVEN!! Good Lord man we never keep our house any lower than 78 or so during the day and maybe 76 at night." How he thought the AC was supposed to keep up with about a 40 degree temperature differential I don't know.
Can't imagine what that idiots power bill was...but I have to assume dunskies like that aren't ADAPTING to higher prices, just doing the same old same old and complaining about the costs and not paying their bills.
Even before the talk of inflation you saw stories regularly of how the "average" savings amount was maybe a few hundred dollars- so yeah that's gone. The inflation causing "stimmy" checks were used up for BS by many so most didn't "save" anything from that handout. But you can damn sure bet more handouts will be coming forthwith!
Just remember, we were those "stupid survivalists" who advocated paying cash for stuff instead of debt, having some savings, having a year of food for your family wouldn't suffer if you lost your job, owning a smaller place that you actually owned, etc. While everyone else was playing with OPM, going here and there and having a good ole time, we were saving, paying off debt, storing food, etc.
Ant and grasshopper much? Only the grasshoppers have control of the overall economy, which is why were are eff'ed.

Readers know that low-tier consumers are financially tapped out. They've maxed out credit cards, depleted savings, and have seen wage gains wiped out due to inflation. It comes as no surprise the US is becoming more like Europe, where energy poverty has doomed millions of households.
It's only a matter of time before the Biden administration starts handing out stimmy checks for electricity bills.
