  • Storm of 2010

Does anyone out there have any stories from the blizzard this week (or any other storm). Was anyone stranded or had to shelter in place. How about stories from friends, neighbors, co-workers? Is there anything you wish you had with you or more of. This is a good way to share your experiences and stories and possibly help some of us to prepare.
Man created shotguns because God created cats.

Man, those Muslims sure are worried about what they eat. I went over there and all I heard was Alohaaaaa Snack-bar.

For us it was about an inch plus. But did pull out the generator and the 220 volt cord set. Pulled out the propane lanterns and extra fuel canisters.

Thankfully we needed neither, but just as thankfully they were there if needed. This is in reference to the one that came up the East coast this weekend.

All I know is that I am sooooo happy with my new oil-fired boiler install on a Buderus boiler I lucked into at a Habitat Store... Installed it myself... That new boiler purrs like a kitten, zero smoke, and beautiful, natural heat from slant-fin baseboards. Runs easily on my Honda eu2000i. Reliable HEAT is the best winter prep one can have... IMO.

@Rmplstlskn: what is the price of oil where you are? I ask because when we were "stuck" in Maryland for 3 years, our heating bill averaged over $500 a month on heating oil. I swore then I would NEVER use heating oil as a primary heating source ever again.

It was an old house, and an old oil furnace, but still, $500+ a month was ridiculous.

Ouch!!!! $500. a month would buy a nice chainsaw one month, plus some extra chains. Next month it would buy a spare. Next 2 1/2 month a power splitter. By the end of the first winter you'd "break even" on all your heating needs, most of the rest of the time would be money saved.

I can remember living up north as a kid. We had this SMALL little wood stove that probably my Dad welded together himself. We had electric heat but I don't think the thermostat went above 55, maybe 60 if it was Christmas or someone's bday... One time one of us dropped some ice cubes on the floor of the kitchen. I remember my Mom telling my Dad- "that icecube (still intact) was dropped on the floor YESTERDAY.." as they argued about turning up the heat.

One of the main reasons I'll never move above the Mason Dixon line is winter.

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

we got 10 inches over 2 days here.. we may be able to get out thursday if we are lucky.. not that we really have anywhere to go ...

we lost power for about 12 hours, no big deal we have alternate sources for emergency power as needed..

this was the biggest snow I have seen since moving down here from buffalo area.. one thing i can see us needing is a sled of some sort that could be used in hauling, wood, water, or supplies in, out or around the area

we have another person here with us,, her meds are an issue.. she is out as of today... this has to change immediately and was something she was told to do before coming here.

one of the most enjoyable and pretty Christmases i can remember.. i shot a couple raw videos and posted them on my you tube if anyone is interested

for a pile of pics... you do NOt have to be a facebook member to see them! .. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...0&l=54d9c2f5e8

@1Admin: unfortunately, as a military family, we were renting and no fireplace or wood stove in the "dump" we were stuck with...
