  • all comms go down - then companies deny it!

yesterday afternoon. all communications down at our house.
cell phones (verizon) won't work. no service
house land line (smaller regional provider) won't work. no service.
computer/email/wifi won't work. provided by regional provider down.

we tried to call out of area. out of state. neighbors... didn't matter. no service.
https://downdetector.com/status/verizon/ i don't know how long this graph will work. ?? but if it disappears or is out of date. it shows huge problem from 2 pm to 5 pm. an associate who monitors problems of all types sent me this link after i told him my story.

verizon has gone down before. house line and computer have gone down before.. but never both at the same time..

bride and i got in truck to go test the surroundings and see if problems developing... maybe a good idea to leave. maybe not.

we made a couple of stops at retail places. confirmed with others that verizon was down. we drove into another area where land lines were from a different provider... no problems with this new area provider.

picked up a few items at sams and headed home. on the way home, cell phones started working.

called verizon service got candace (sp?) smart alec and evasive. would not give any other id. would not give a location. finally said she was from texas.. advised no problem with verizon and with s.a. attitude kept repeating sir, your phone is working. there is no problem. has been no problem, but we will do a test on your phone to see why you have a problem. she did that, confirming that our phones are working... finally, i read off to her a list of names and numbers of people that we had tried to call, and when... she told me she could see all that. by the way, there was a repeated ping on the line. i think this showed i was being recorded? i asked her what it was. she didn't know. candace had "forked tongue"

called land line company. "ferener" i think, answered... denied any problem. they had had no loss of service he said. i confirmed land line worked. confirmed computer worked...

it was a little bit of a jolt. to have both companies say no problem. and to suddenly be without service.. we live in south georgia. no storms. no ice. comments on link above indicates lots of folks writing in about outages at verizon in this area... why deny it?

no problems here.. everything normal. yesterday morning, i bought some windshield washer fluid with antifreeze in it. 4.07 per gallon. as i picked up several gallons. i told guy at napa, this is about 2$/gallon isn't it? he said, "no sir, not any more. you know. not with what all is going on!"

Is ATT your land line? We had a few interruptions with ATT yesterday as well.

Verizon was down all over GA till around 5pm or so.

Never had to sit on the phone with Verizon, but I've wasted hours on the line with ATT for ridiculous stuff in the last couple months and they can screw up a 1 car parade- and have at least 4 times now for us. Yet the very problems yesterday with cell service is why we have maintained a land line and also use satellite for internet.

Some folks were around surveying power poles about six months ago. Chit chatted with them and was told that our area is "getting fiber" soon. "Soon" as in probably in a year or so.

It reminded me of the scene in Vegas Vacation where they are at the Hoover Dam and Eddies wife says "oh electricity... Eddie says we are going to get electricity soon." LOL
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

land line is with windstream. but the name kinetic is now involved... kinetic by windstream...

it was an uncomfortable situation. i hate bills, and try to minimize the number of bills that we get, but i'm sure thinking about changing one of our cell phones to someone besides verizon. several folks told me that their ____ talk phones worked.
maybe "straight talk." all that had _____talk appeared to be lower income, but i shouldn't judge by their comm skills. i was dressed pretty shabby. their phones worked and mine didn't.
