  • Harsh winters on the way? Possible new Ice Age? Gulf Stream effect stalled... Hmmmm..

I admit I don't know much about the effect of the Gulf Steam on global weather, but this video does gives one something to ponder... If anywhere close to right, we have some long, brutal winters coming our way... Especially Europe!

    Mini Ice Age?

Ok, uhm I am not a climatologist nor am I an Oceanographer. With that said how does the oil spill stop the jet stream that comes from the pacific ocean, which this year is an El Nina year, meaning we will have a colder winter. El Nina is caused by a cooling down of the pacific ocean not the gulf of Mexico. Granted the Atlantic ocean does affect the flow of the jet stream but it is not dying like this guy is saying.

I remember some really cold and white winters when I was a kid. My Mom has seen snow in May or July big deal. The last part of the video I think has some truth to it, food will become very important. There were some big droughts and fires that affected global food production. We may have to switch to Aeroponics and/or greenhouses if winters start lasting too long but then all we need to do is burn some more forests :)

Weather is cyclical plain and simple for those that believe in global warming and those that don't.

To each their own I guess. If it comes to pass then it does, either way I am not stopping my preps nor am I jumping out in the street saying "See I told you so!!".

LOL. I am okay with Europe freezing actually, spain, france, and greece.

Just to be on the safe side, I think I'll add a snowshovel to my preps.
What a long, strange trip it's been.....

Talked with some of my German neighbors last week while I was helping them shovel out their walk and driveway. He said this was the first time in 60 plus years it had snowed this early. Started snowing in November here and that's apparently unusual.

Do I think we are on a global cooling trend? I tend to believe those things are cyclic and happen whether or not we're burning fossil fuels or not. We (humans) might not be helping matters much, but I believe the planet has these things happen and they will continue to happen no matter what Greenpeace or Earth First have to say about us causing it. Humans aren't the cause (and again, we might not be helping) and the Gaia Hypothesis is a load of horse hockey. These things have happened, will continue to happen and I don't believe there is sufficient science behind why they do happen. If humans are the cause of "global climate shift" how come we have had five major ice ages and countless minor glacial periods over the history of our planet when humans weren't so prevalent? Nobody has ever explained that one to my satisfaction and most scientists still can't tell you exactly what causes ice ages. Oh they have their theories, but nobody knows for certain what causes them...however, there are those that like to talk like they do so they can profit from it.

Al Gore and company can suck an egg as climate change is a natural part of the Earth's life cycle that has nothing to do with humans.

Is it not true that when a Volcano erupts, it puts more harmful materials into the atmosphere than humans have since the Industrial Revolution?

I don't know, but snow in South Georgia again this year would be cool. I'm gonna buy some skis and poles next trip up to the slopes. I've seen them sitting outside of Goodwill and Salvation Army shops in NC ski areas.

Who knows, they might be our post apoc/climate change/nuclear winter alternative transportation.

I remember in the 70's the big scare was "The Coming Ice Age!" I went out and bought a pair of mukluks. Then it was "Global Warming!" I went out and bought books on how to eat rattle snakes, prickly pear cactus, and horny toad lizards. Now we're back to "The Coming Ice Age!" and I can't remember where I put my mukluks!

I have read; one of the things about global warming, is it is always followed by a global cooling period as well. How long that will last and how low we will go, is yet to be seen....

Right now we are having a very normal weather system up here in the great state of Wyoming. I'm looking out the up stairs window at what could be a scene from Dr. Zhivago.
