Thanks for that! That is so true! I think that will include about 95% of the US population. People cant bring themselves to believe that a crash can happen.

The sad part is that I TOLD my brother about this stuff, and he said that he wasn't worried about it, and that if something did happen, he was heading to my house. I then told him that he could come over if he wanted, but I wasn't going to be here. I have two spots picked out and will go there if TSHTF. I know it will be a big disappointment to him and I wish I could afford to prep for both of us, but I can't. His wife is loaded, he is working, and his wife's mother lives with them. When she moved in, she brought something like 1.5M with her. I will feel sorry for them, but not that much. As I tell people, you can turn on the light, but you can't open the eyes.

Good to see another Tennessean. Welcome Mrsmarine.

My wife has been difficult. My brother and his family are going to be near impossible. So, my plan includes them in our long term survival prepping plus my inlaws. It won't be the lap of luxury, but it will be a start.

Good luck to all ya'll trying to get (us) women to understand. I grew up in the south and am no stranger to farming/canning, so once I realized exactly what other people are doing and why ... it all just made sense. I myself am having a difficut time convincing my 2 sisters that it's best to be prepared for anything than be unprepared. A turning point for me to realize how important prepping is was watching a video on youtube titled "End of Liberty." I believe that people today have lost their survival instincts and rely too much on modern conveniences for their day to day life.

Snow/ice storms, power outages, tornado or straight wind damage. Numerous times over the course of the years "friends" have come over because we are not sitting in the dark, without heat, eating hot meals, having snacks, playing cards and enjoying the day. Like zombies they sit and wring their hands waiting for someone to fix it. Then it seems they drift over because they know we are not. Later in the year they ridicule me as a "doomsdayer". The same with my wifes family over the years I was known as "that guy" because of my love of weapons but now suddenly they are into guns, even becoming instructors, and need my help and now I am "the guy" and my phone won't quit ringing. We all shoot IPSC together now once a month just for fun.

Mine is not fully "on board" but does see the value of such things. I believe she has a fear of what people say and think and of getting labeled. She cares somewhat about those things and I understand. She definitely gets is though on short term stuff. When Christmas shopping for the kids she wanted to but a generator and a small heater for my son who lives in an apartment just in case they couldn't get to us or didnt want to for a power outage. I was stunned and fully agreed.
On her fears, there are to many folks start doing illegal/immoral things in the name of their cause of survival. We have encountered that numerous times in the years and she like me doesn't believe in that so I don't push it and she doesn't stop me from preparing. I have watched friend of mine go in and tell his spouse that he wanted an Ak47, 1000 rds, body armor and 1yr of food right now. They never even talked about anything like survival and were basically sheeple. Thats a hard pill for anyone to swallow financially and mentally, wether it's a wife or a husband. As to date he is divorced (not because of that) and has no preps nor any plans to because he found someone but not LMI so he changed his. He thinks he can rely on me. Ain't gonna happen Zombie.
She knows I post here and wonders about me because I have never till recently even remotely thought of it. OPSEC was my biggest thing but I'm not as worried about it, I found out first hand just how easy it is to find someone so it is already known. I have found during emergencies, like moths to a flame, they are drawn to my house. They will come as well supplied friends or soon to be done in zombies, that we agree on.

Matt- I dunno. Will your wife let you trade her, much less trade your alcohol? ;)

OK, so the sarcasm didn't go over well. I don't know why but the ladies just seem to want to live in some sort of fantasy all the time. The former Mrs. Biathlon read the same novels over and over even though she had a ski pass. She watched some show called "Extreme housewives" or something like that. Even the really nice one I'm with now still doesn't get it.

@biathlon: Not sure if God would ever forgive me for trading humans...

Not only will they need it, they will consider access to our preperations their RIGHT!

I wonder how the Warlord business will be after TSHTF? Maybe I could just trade in women and slaves and alcohol?

Of course, when SHTF, I am sure that there will be a abundance of ladies needing food, shelter, warmth and protection.... of course, this is everymans fantasy and nightmare possibly and I could start my own thread on that subject in itself. But all that abundance scares me too....

Where I am in the country, is not quite what I am looking for....
