  • Storing Propane Cylinders

I was just down in the basement washing out some kegs and noticed my stash of propane tanks. There the small green ones you use for a camp stove

I've been storing them in a clear Rubbermaid bin for the past 3 years or so. I don't see any sighs of corrosion on them and I was just wondering if storing them this way was is safe

Does anyone have any tips on storing these things away for long periods of time?

    Thanks

Sounds like it works. As long as they don't get wet (or it is too humid) they should be good. Not sure if are subject to blow off, like bigger tanks.

I store mine in a similar fashion some in tubs and some in an ole Army medical latch container. As eeyore stated moisture(rusting) is the enemy. I've had some for as long as 10yrs with no issues. I check them periodicaly for the rust, also watch for damaged threads if they get moved around alot with the camping gear.

I just pack about 30 of these canisters for a move. Moving companies will not move them. They had been stored in a garage wrapped in old towels and they looked new.
