Okay, had to go to IKEA today to get something that matches an item we already have. Traffic very light on the roads for Black (am I even allowed to say that) Friday. IKEA had about 50% of the shelves where you pick up items that were empty. Huge gaps in the stock and there is no way to hide it. Return home we saw some cars in parking lots of stores, but not packed parking lots. And, the return trip home was very few cars....Are people not buying this year, or are they buying online.

I went to the hairdresser today, which is about 1/4 mile from my house. Have not done one bit of shopping this year and wasn't about to start on Black Friday! I'll buy some Hallmark ornaments for my grandkids and money all around...not going to NY for Christmas again this year. Husband is having surgery in December...
barber shop... went from 10 to 12 and this year 15. half my hair left and so i went to "cut it all off... " easy and fast... still 15.. at the time i had a beard.. that was an extra 5 for the beard trim... $20. quietly the barber let me know that the landlord went up a bunch on the rent. i like those fellows. but, i left shop and went to wally world and spent about 35 on a hair cutting kit... my bride is getting pretty good... 2 x 20 = 40.... hair cutting kit - 35 i'm $5.00 up so far!

elsewhere i posted about wife needed sugar for making jelly, so today i went to sams for more sugar... Walmart brand was 5.58 for a 10# bag and i got some bags..
went to the self service check out and computer showed 5.94 so i stopped and got assistance... lady was polite, but let me know there was nothing she could do... the computer had the right price.
i went back to the shelf and took a picture of the 5.58 and headed to the service counter... service rep had to call supervisor.. she was not friendly but let me know she was doing an "override"
and my price was 5.58
if you need sugar, looks like that price is rising.

Also went grocery shopping and bought $68 worth of not much; milk, ice cream, salad dressing, peaches, and Pop Tart bites - all for hubby. A jar of red sauce on sale for $2 off and only $2.50 more than it was last year, some keto ice cream bars for me, skipped hubby's favorite cereal that used to be $2.79 last year and is now $5.07.. I'll get that at Walmart, bigger box, for $3.98. Contrary to usual practice, I'm trying to use up a lot of what's in the pantry to make way for home-canned vegetables and my own red sauce. Peanuts on sale 2/$4.50, a big jar of minced garlic, and 2 small cans of green chiles. Ordered hubby's protein drinks and cereal, plus some trash bags, from Walmart and will pick up tomorrow.
My hair has needed a trim for over a month, and it can wait, because once I head out to the garden, it ends up a frizzy mess anyway. Husband usually buzz cuts his hair during the summer with the nice "professional" clippers I bought him. With an ~$11K roof job on tap, I'm trying to save some bucks.
Trip to the garden center upcoming for more potting soil, more tomato cages, and some tubs with airtight lids for the garden shed. I already have the cash for that.
“Barber Shop” In March of 2020, the barber and style shops were closed. I ordered a clipper kit from Amazon and I’ve been cutting my own hair since. It doesn’t always look great, but it didn’t with the pros either. It took a little time to get the procedure down, but I figured that if LD3 could cut his own hair, I would give it a try :-). BTW, I cut my 3-terriers’ hair now as well. Saved a ton of money there.
wwd, sounds like you may have wind or hail damage to your roof. you may want to call your insurance company and see if they will pay for all or even part of the damage.
For an extra $600, the roofing contractor will re-shingle the workshop, and we jumped on it. That building is insured by the same company, so they shouldn't have anything to gripe about now. I see the homeowners insurance bill is making its way through the FL legislator, so hopefully we won't need to deal with this issue in another 10 years.
Shopping trip at Lowes, over $100, for 3 storage bins (for the garden shed), 2 bags of potting soil, some pool shock, a drip hose, and some catnip seeds....
bought some hydraulic oil today for a piece of equipment.... sign said 21.00 for a gallon container.... i needed 5+ gallons...
found a 5 gallon container for 49.99 i got 2 buckets of 5 gallon... got to the cash register and cashier typed in 66. for a 5 gallon container... we had a friendly discussion with manager listening.
i went to get the price sticker... and brought back to the counter. manager came over and corrected the price to 49.99..... i wish i'd bought added 5 gallon containers...
they had not updated price on the shelf...
Forgot about this thread, til you revived it rr...
Homeowners insurance went up 26% (no new claims in 7 years and that was for a hurricane damage)
Trash pickup went up 23%
Wife has a small 401k...went down last year 16.3%, and for the first six months of this year it is down 14.8% (30% in 1.5 years)

Most everything I buy has increased in price, so I'm trying to be a smart shopper. The grass-fed organic ground beef I buy has gone up $1.50/lb, and the butter I buy has gone up $2.50 for a 2-pack. I did find some tank tops on sale for <$7, so I bought a few.
I'm thankful that we cashed out our 401ks when we retired. The market has taken a beating...
I had transferred most of my IRA into a self directed IRA years ago and bought PMs. I had a little that I kept in the IRA that was needed to keep account open as it was a matching account from my employer. Last year when I retired, i cashed out the rest and invested. Glad I did....
