  • folks losing jobs - AI

an associate has just changed jobs..
he was a risk manager helping a company predict risks, then plan with how to deal with risks, etc...
    now.
he has the AI point man for the very large company.

the bottom line is that many many folks will lose their jobs.
that bottom line has been hard for me to understand .

we frequent Sam's store in our area's big city. 1 out of 4 visits or so, we see this older guy that has been there for decades, riding around on a noisey floor cleaner.
today i heard the machine and knew what it was. it's loud and has warning horns.
as it got closer i realized the old gent wasn't on it... i started preparing to shut it off. then i saw it make a series of two turns, both times stopping twice for civilians and for shopping buggies.
on closer inspection realized that there was a small metal post on the side witih various small machines attached... i watched carefully for the old gent who always smiles and nods. i figured he'd be doing something else... didn't see him...
i suspect they let him go...
    ??
then i went to the front check out area. i have continuously refused to do the self check out. but i've now liearned how. it's not that hard, and checked myself out.

on prior visits even though the two ladies at the exit door recognize me, they would take my receipt and look in my buggy. for the last 2 months we walk under some kind of super quiet machine, and that machine sends a message to the lady at the door that all is ok... or tells her i forgot to add an item and it gets embarrassing.!

AI and robotics are the future. It's taking some getting used to and definitely won't be an easy transition.

I'm looking forward to lower cost humanoid robots that can help around the homestead when I get older. TX103 and TX104 splitting wood and stacking it while TX105 is herding cattle.
Thermal drone is doing a perimeter flyby routinely as well as when motion alarms are tripped.

We just need to learn how to keep Skynet out of this stuff...

I remember seeing the robotic floor sweeper at Walmart a long time ago. It didn't give me a dirty look when I got in its way😂

I'm already "older" and now I'd like a robot to take out the trash, which we generate a lot of, and one to sweep and mop the floors without interrupting my husband's TV watching 😉

We went thru 2 of the robovacuums and they were neat until they weren't. For general purpose they were ok until they'd lose their way. Now we just sweep and mop and don't miss them much.
As for job layoffs, if you're doing data entry, your job may be in trouble.
        BUT
In our 6 bar/restaurants/butcher shops, we don't anticipate job layoffs. we're locally owned, not some national chain.
it will be what it will be.
