Finally broke down and got another one, put this one on my boy's rifle.
Just zeroed it Friday afternoon, took only about 15 rounds to zero.
Dual illumination 3x30 with the 7.62x39 BDC and the red "horseshoe", some call "lollipop" reticle.
Not a lot of choices yet in reticles for the x39 BDC model.
We've been doing more at night and I've been teaching them first how to use magnified optics to check areas with shadows, etc. from a distance so this will come in handy for him in that also.
Keeping in commonality, it's almost an exact same setup as my rifle, only an OTAL-C laser on his rifle versus a DBAL-I2 on mine.
He sees well and is young, so the lure of magnified optics he doesn't really understand yet. He sees his groups at 200 close up a little more and he will "get it" however.
Looks like Trijicon has come out with a "2nd generation" version of this, so the old school ones like this should be priced a little cheaper now while they move them out.
K-var has them and is reliable and ships quick.
