    Part 30

DeJesus had found the Claymore clacker, test set and spoil of wire at a gunshow. A good while back the boys had found some 40% dynamite and a couple of electric blasting caps. DeJesus had wired them up near the four corners of the house. Now safely back in his tunnel, he swiveled the safety bail on the clacker away and starting working the clacker with his good hand.

Four explosions went off and what remained of the house crumpled in on itself.

This came as a surprise to all the raiding party.

"You suppose a gas can blew up inside or something?" Steve asked Jim.

"I'm not sure. Maybe they had some caps or explosive that cooked off? Maybe one went off and the others went off via sympathetic detonation? Let's stay back a bit and continue to watch it. " Jim replied.

The dark of night turned into the gray of dawn. The stick framed house burned down to nothing.

Night scopes were removed from weapons one at a time by the DM's and overwatch.

Beginning with just two people, some of the assault team came forward towards the ruins of the house. Small grass fires were stamped out before they could reach the wood line.

The assault team began a sweep of the area surrounding the house. They moved on line about 5 yards apart. Nothing was found except for some hand tools left out near a small garden area.

After this was over, Steve asked "do we want to try to drag those bodies out of the debris?"

"They look pretty charred to me. It's not like we are cops or have some forensic data we could match up. Besides, we may want to leave this place just like this. You know someday things might start getting back to normal. If they do, things like this may start being looked into. We did a pre-emptive action here. Some liberal judge would claim that they did nothing to us, etc. We want as little evidence remotely linking us to this as possible. Jim said.

Two group members were sent back to the rally point to an ATV that was left there. From there they proceeded to drive to the retreat to pick up a couple trucks to bring everyone back in.

Lyle had asked why they did not simply leave the trucks at the rally point. Jim had said that if the attack went bad, he wanted nothing to point Gomez back to the place of original of the attackers.

The two trucks selected to be brought back to the rally point had their license plates or "tags" removed and were both vehicles that some of the Group members from another state had driven to the retreat. This way, no one could connect a vehicle they were even remotely used to seeing in the area, with the attackers.

Miguel was bound and brought up to the rally point with the trucks.

The Group did an orderly withdrawal of the area surrounding the house leaving just Jim, Steve and Bill remaining there with Miguel.

Steve stood watching while Jim and Bill talked with Miguel.

"So now what?" Miguel said. Jim thought this was kind of an odd thing to say for a guy in his predicament.

Using the Colt Python took from one of Gomez bodies in the running battle Steve put two rounds in the back of Miguel's head. Miguel's lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud.

Both Jim and Bill appeared to not be looking around but were consciously scanning the tree line. They waited in that position a couple minutes. Bill would later say he now knew how bait felt like.

"Well if their was any of their crew left out watching, that might have enticed them. Being as it looks like we are all by ourselves now." Jim said. In reality the rest of the attacking force was just 100 yards into the brush.

Jim squatted down next to Miguel's body after the twitching stopped. He removed an item that was in the small bag he had with him and placed in under Miguel's body.

"And that should take care of any that come back later." Bill said.

With that the three of them bounded back into the brush and linked up with the rest of the crew.

At the rally point Jim said to everyone- "Listen I know we are all tired. And I'm proud of everyone, this went really well. That being said, we have to be careful how we head back and make sure we don't screw the pooch in doing it. 10 miles isn't that far, it's early morning so the vehicles will be heard a far off and since their is hardly any vehicle traffic now a days, it won't go unnoticed. I'd like to drive to near where the Hansen OP is on the paved road. Once there we will drop off all but 4 people, two drivers and two riding shotgun. Those folks will take the vehicles 5 miles out of the way and ditch them in this clearing here" Jim pointed to a spot on the map. "In two weeks we will retrieve them and drive them back to the retreat."

"Aren't you being a little paranoid Jim?" Ben said.

"Probably. But we are still not 100% sure we got all these guys and we were really damn lucky that this played out the way it did. All it would take for this to get FUBAR is for their to be a survivor or a guy hiding in the woods to see a blue Chevy leaving here, then torturing a couple people in the area till someone says a blue Chevy went down Route 6 and turned off at Country Road 13 a couple days ago. THEN they have our general vicinity. Steve and I will drive the trucks, I just need two people to ride shotgun."

    Bill and Ben stepped forward.

Ben said "your right Jim, sorry, I'm frickin beat, I can't think straight."

"You all probably understand why we occasionally did a 24 hour straight training outing here and there now don't ya?" Jim laughed as he said that and they loaded up the trucks.

It looked like a scene from the start of the US Afghan war as two pick up truck loads of people carrying AK's took off from the rally point. All they lacked was the turbans and RPG7's.

Jim quietly praised the Lord for His protection that night, for both him and all the Group.
