Thanks. I plan to use a 5 gallon bucket for this purpose. May experiment with using sand/gravel/charcoal combo I've seen online.

When in Florida, I made one 55g into a french drain for our laundry so it wouldn't mess up our septic system when we used bleach... Thinking of doing one here in VA too, as I am also on septic here. We just use bleach lightly now...

Rain barrels too, but those may not look the best cosmetically around your house... I know some people could care less what it looks like, function over looks, but call me strange, but I still want my house and property to look NICE... I use earth-tone barrels (pickles, etc...) for my rain catchment... Looks a lot better.

Got several plastic drums of different sizes from a car wash. Looking to use the 55 gallon ones for rain barrels. Also got some 15 and 30 gallon sizes. Also got some 5 gallon buckets from a wine place.
Will be using the 5 gallon buckets for food storage, maybe using some this size and larger for burying for vegetable root storage in the future. Could use the 15 and 30 gallon ones for same purpose after cleaning the car wash liquids out. Have thought about using the 15 gallon one to store gas since it has a handle and closeable lid, and is more easily carried.
Have seen a aquaponics demonstration where plastic drums were split in half and used.

Just looking for creative ideas of what others have stored with the different sizes as I'm looking to get more different sized drums and what makes the most sense storing in them long-term.
Are there books that go into great detail on uses?
