So, a while ago I found a semi-local business where I can get 50 lb bags of various grains and legumes. They're a little more expensive than ordering online, but I can pay cash and have no paper trail as to what/how much I buy. I bought a grain mill and started baking my own bread, etc.. On one of my visits to said store, I noticed a bulletin board with a list of classes the store owner offered and decided to sign up for a 'Bread Making 101' class. I'd already had some sucsesses (and failures) but decided the cost was reasonable ($10 for a 5 hour class).

Well, when I got there, the owner started the class with a prayer. I was surprised (pleasently) to say the least. As the class went on, I found out that it is a faith-based business and several times during the class, there were scripture references (around healthy eating and lifestyle, etc.). To say the least, it was a refershing change to stumble upon a business that is not shy about what the owners believe in and stand for. Some things that came out in the class:

    1) They sell ONLY non-GMO products. Their staff actually verifies that the products the vendors provide are non-GMO. I noticed a while later that there was no lecithin on the shelf (it had been there previously). I asked an employee and she said that they could no longer verify that their vendor provided a non-GMO product and they quit offering it until they found a vendor that could be verified.

    2) I noticed (when I was ready to buy some) that they only offered organic dent corn. They usually offer both organic and non-organic products. Again, I asked an employee about it. She said that both the organic and non-organic were the same price so they just bought more of the organic. Now, some businesses would have artificially inflated the price of the organic product just because they could....they didn't.

    3) 10% of the profits of the business goes to their church. Another 10% goes to charities. They actually practice what they preach.

Needless to say, I'm now a regular patron of this business. I'll drive a little further and even pay a little more to support what seems to be a very ethical and moral establishment that doesn't bow to the pressures of a secular society.
