After storms we generally try to pick up bargains from people who impulse buy and then go back to doing what they did before with no thought about future events. I have an office in the NE US so it is easy for us to look at stuff people bought and regretted buying now up for sale. One of the things we have seen thus far is a large number of generators being sold. One thing we learned in the past was to check each one out before buying. What we have seen is only one out of four is even working any more. Most people ran them continually or until the gas ran out. Most of the engines are burned up and worthless.
When you ask one of these guys why they are selling they tell you up front it wont happen again. It was a hundred year event and they pass it off as such.
The other thing we saw was a bunch of vehicles for sale and most still had the high water marks on them. No real bargains to be had here. For the next year or so I would really watch out for those bargain trucks for sale cheap out there. Many of them will show up in the South on used car lots. Look for signs of water damage in the interior. Also sand will have crept into a lot of the small spaces. GB
