Also keep in mind that the Engish government just announced a few weeks ago a 75% CUT in welfare benefits! That possibly was the initiating spark for all those riots which then flared into full fledged riots on the shooting incident of that man by the police there.

It is my opinion that we rob people of their pride and dignity when we (as a society) allow them to languish on the public dole. The riots, in both countries, are a result of that. People who have no respect for themselves, have no respect for others.

Firstly, I'd like to commend the posters on this thread for their mature and common sense opinions and questions about what is happening over here in England. On some other US prep sights it's page after page of "We shudda never lent them our guns! England deserves it cos they aint got guns! Typical socialist country- I'd have cut them down with my 50.cal! etc) Which quite frankly makes those posters look like morons.
There are riots in the US, several recently by blacks against whites. Property damage and beatings galore. Having a gun or not seems to make no difference to the onlookers or participants in any of those cases. In London on Sunday/Monday the emergency services were unable to put out fires because they could not get through the rioters without risking attack and damage to their vehicles. (In N.O after Katrina thugs were shooting at the emergency services, so same attitude, different methods.)

The first point then is that guns or no guns, the mob mentality is the same, that damage and looting will take place in a gun culture just as much as a non gun culture. Arm the citizens, arm the thugs...status quo.

As far as England is concerned, the inner city areas are the hot spots, several cities have now seen rioting as looters and thugs spread their success via social networking sites like twitter, The media show lines of kids walking off with TV's and trainers and the next night, new riots break out in new areas as the locals there decide to get some free stuff.
The rioters seem to be mostly black, from the black areas of the cities, or a multicultural mix predominately black but with white and asian mixed depending on the area of England the city is. There are no riots in Wales or Scotland, maybe because there are no large ethnic ghettos in any of their cities, maybe because England has more people crammed into bigger cities, or maybe it's cultural.

We do have an inner city underclass in the big English cities, personally I call them scum, but one could also call the the non-working class. The welfare class that, like in your country, exist on benefits and payouts from the government. Now some bleeding heart liberals (small L) say these people are victims and it's the fault of society, but let me tell you all, that is NOT the opinion of the average bloke in the street. Here, just as where you are, this behaviour is deemed evil and anti-social. Our PrimeMinister called these people and their attitude "sick" so maybe the good that will come out of these riots will be a hardening of attitude to the bottom feeders of our society and a more robust aproach to dealing with them.

Last night, after the PM stated that the police would be given a free hand to deal with the looters and that rubber bullets were authorised, there was little or no rioting. I hope that the scum realised their spree without consequenses was over and slunk back to their council flats to watch the news on their new flat screen televisions. The darker part of my mind however, believes that they are merely lying low for a few days until the police numbers drop and the weather clears up. Until we actually have some heads busted and bloody nosed rioters being hurled into the back of police vans, I don't think this is over!

I heard on the way home from work this morning that they were going into houses and arresting who they considered protesters. your thoughts?

As I said on a UK prepper forum it’s quite likely a precedent has been set. Even if the police’s talk about punishing those responsible isn't mostly hot air, how effective is it going to be at deterring it happening again? I reckon from now on whether we see big protests you’re going to get large numbers of additional ‘protesters’, showing up simply to riot and loot.

As I’ve said before, thankfully I’ve had no firsthand experience of what’s going on, the nearest it’s got so far as been Leeds and Nottingham, around 20 and 40 miles away respectively.

I think it’s safe to say though that while we’re no strangers to rioting in this country what going on now is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. It’s very much a case of what 1Admin said in his thread ‘America the powderkeg....’

It's just like the spoiled kid pitching a fit to get what they want and not getting a spanking over it- they realize it worked and do it again.

The original outbursts in Tottenham pretty typical of the riots everywhere but soon afterwards certain elements throughout London and indeed in cities across the country saw what was going on and decided they wanted a ‘piece of the action’.

Personally I think the media were highly irresponsible in the way they basically talked up what was going on there. They chose to focus on this angle of ‘are the police being too soft’, which no doubt encouraged later rioters.....

Anyway, I think one way or other things will be getting back to normal pretty soon. The police have been authorized to use rubber bullets and water cannons which have until now only ever been deployed on the streets of Northern Ireland. Obviously the lads over there are a breed apart from your average inner city yout, so I reckon they’ll be dispersed pretty quickly.

The police themselves have been seen to have failed the people, whatever they do now is going to be hailed what they should have done days ago. Sure we’re going to see a lot of posturing on their part, but I think that’ll only rub salt in the wounds. So next time something like this kicks off I’m betting we see a much more proactive response from public. What that’ll mean in practice its hard to tell, but what’s certain is it’ll further undermine the state apparatus.

So for me it’s all been a massive warning and a taste of things to come, there are a lot of things I’ve been stalling on which now seem much more urgent.
