  • Anyone hear this re: livestock/fish antibiotics?

Supposedly going to go prescription only soon?

Starting June 11, 2023, all currently available over-the-counter antibiotics for livestock will be available only as prescription medications.

In January, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) released specific details on a change to how certain antibiotics for animal use may be purchased.  As of June 11, 2023, a number of veterinary antibiotics considered “medically important antimicrobials” previously sold over the counter will require a veterinary prescription in order to purchase.  Here are answers to some common questions surrounding this new rule. What is the new rule?  The Food and Drug Administration’s CVM GIF #263 makes changes to the availability of certain over the counter antibiotics for... Read More →

I have not seen if this will affect fish antibiotics. That article you posted and the one I posted does not say specifically fish and only references "livestock". The articles do reference many antibiotics humans would use. It also is making ivermectin for livestock Rx which makes me wonder if that is the bigger picture. Now, my thoughts are antibiotics for livestock could potentially be passed into food for humans and they are using the "making the antibiotics more resistive to bacteria" story line. I am not sure if that is true, it may be, but I have not studied if a cow is given an antibiotic will that said antibiotic be passed onto the human even after said meat was cooked?

I have reached out to the owner at SHTFSource.com to see if he can shed light on this.

My tinfoil hat thought is they do not trust humans to have them, and want to get them out of humans hands, so that said humans will need to get into the system. YMMV

So, I heard back from my friend at SHTFSource.com ,,,,This is his reply...

Good to hear from you again.

People sure have run with that rumor. I've spoken out on it several times, but nobody wants to hear the answer.

The Veterinary Feed Directive affects only antibiotics for livestock. Our antibiotics are labelled exclusively for ornamental fish, not food fish, and will remain available. My best guess for other sources: TSC items will be entirely gone, but Petco aquarium stuff will persist.
